Position Overview:  


The Approvals and Technical Support Engineer will be a subject matter expert for hardware and software solutions and a domain expert in their use by our customers, agents, and representatives. Through good interpersonal skills and good technical knowledge, the Approvals and technical support engineer role is involved in delivering high level technical support, specifically with regard to country type approval processes. The approvals and technical support engineer also be expected to provide engineering guidance to other departments, including Operations, Product and Marketing, and Sales in customer interaction, tenders, pre-sales, and support issues.

This role is key to Engineering for provision of support to areas of the business that require technical support in the delivery of their services internally and to end-user customers. 

Essential Responsibilities:


  • Provide technical support to metrological bodies throughout the EMEA region in the process of gaining local type approvals.
  • Support global engineering teams with system testing related to new designs or updates to enable metrological testing to be completed. This includes managing laboratory, track, and field testing.
  • Assist teams preparing tender responses, pre-sales presentations and end-customer meetings in support of sales and operations.
  • Provide guidance on resolving technical and application problems to non-engineering internal customers and assist in the preparation of information for consumption by external customers.
  • Provide timely, accurate, appropriate, and adequate information and documentation to stakeholders, with a focus on minimizing delays and providing cost effective solutions.
  • Support with technical documentation for the benefit of type approvals and users post approval.
  • Deliver innovative, technically sound, cost effective and safe engineering advice to business teams and coordinate support and research and development activities if required on behalf of the business units involved.
  • Provide Engineering technical support for engineering matters across the organization.
  • Ensure compliance with the requirements of technical guidelines, standards, policies, and statutory requirements for solutions.
  • Assist in the approvals of new products and solutions in new markets, in collaboration with the Product and Marketing team.

Qualifications:


  • 5+ years of commercial engineering delivery experience.
  • Preference for experience in photo enforcement technology, hardware, and software solutions.
  • Advanced degree in Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience operating as the Subject Matter Expert in Engineering providing technical guidance and support to team members and customers.
  • Strong understanding of relevant standards and regulations in the telecommunications and electronics industries.
  • In-depth knowledge of product testing procedures and methodologies.
  • Familiarity with electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and radio frequency (RF) regulations.
  • Ability to interpret and apply national and international regulatory requirements, such as FCC (Federal Communications Commission), CE (Conformité Européenne), and other relevant standards.
  • Technical expertise in core technologies (one or more of front, middle or back office) and proven experience in one of the key delivery areas (sensors, photography, violation processing).
  • Hands-on experience in testing electronic and telecommunication products for compliance.
  • Familiarity with testing equipment and tools used in the industry.
  • Proficient in preparing and reviewing technical documentation for compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Proficient in preparing User Guides and manuals for use across the board of users.
  • Ability to create and maintain detailed test plans, reports, and certification documentation.
  • Effective communication skills to interact with internal teams, regulatory bodies, and external partners.
  • Ability to explain technical concepts and compliance requirements to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Possession of relevant certifications in areas such as EMC testing, RF testing, or specific product categories.
  • Excellent communication skills to be able to discuss issues with business users and engineers at all levels.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Willingness and ability to coach and mentor less experienced engineering staff.
  • Timely delivery of technical resolution to high impact support issues.
  • Focuses on achieving outcomes using good judgement and quick decisions that lead to business success.
  • Work on complex technical problems; be persistent, ask questions and challenge assumptions.
  • Strong and effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Motivation; work proficiently both independently and as a member of a team.
  • Technical proficiency and a commitment to learning; research and builds knowledge.
