About the role:
A part of the Camera Hardware Engineering Team, this person will focus on investigating custom optical components (lens, filters, illuminators, diffusers) and developing camera module test equipment to improve overall camera module performance for our drones.
This role involves collaboration with cross-functional teams including internal design teams, internal manufacture teams and external camera vendors. He/she will have a good understanding of different aspects of camera design, optics, manufacturing and testing, and would be comfortable traveling as needed to module integrators in Asia.
How you'll make an impact:
- Design best in class optical components (lenses, filters, light sources) and test equipment for our camera modules.
- Work closely with internal camera design, vehicle manufacturing teams, and module integrators to optimize designs and develop camera performance test capabilities.
- Excellent learning and growth opportunity through the development of multiple custom cameras, contributing to a significant impact on our future roadmap and the entire drone industry.
- Work with emerging sensing technologies such as night vision, computational photography, depth sensing, diffractive optics, etc.
What makes you a good fit:
- Bachelor's degree in EE, Optics, Physics, or related fields; a graduate degree is preferred.
- Experience in optical design tools such as ZEMAX, CodeV, or LightTools.
- Strong understanding of camera and optical lab equipment, with a preference for direct lab experience.
- Demonstrated understanding of imaging systems and image quality metrics.
- Knowledge of lens design, illumination system design, camera testing, and validation.
- Proficient in Python programming, with hands-on experience in image data analysis using various software tools and scripts.
- Experience with Imatest and Linux System
- 10% travel to Asia
Compensation Range:
The annual base salary range for this position is $127,500 - $161,250*. Compensation will vary based on factors, including skill level, proficiencies, transferable knowledge, and experience. In addition to base salary, Skydio full-time employees are eligible to enroll in our benefit plans and take advantage of a variety of incentives and stipends.
