Skydio is the leading US drone company and the world leader in autonomous flight, the key technology for the future of drones and aerial transportation. The Skydio team combines deep expertise in artificial intelligence, best-in-class hardware and software product development, and operational excellence to empower a broader, more diverse audience of drone users - from first responders to insurance claims adjusters, utilities, and more!
About the team:
- We develop autonomous flying robots for consumer/prosumer media capture, commercial inspection, and situational awareness from customer use case analysis to requirements definition, product development, factory bring up, and validation through mass production
- We work directly with subsystem technology vendors and cross functionally internally with hardware, embedded, and autonomy teams to develop vehicle, controller, and docking architectures including subsystem architectures such as imaging, navigation, compute, motor control, communication, sensing, and payloads.
- We build and maintain our in-house tools for system & subsystem level characterization, development, validation, and manufacturing
- We use Linux, Mac, and Windows based tools for hardware & software development, system & subsystem integration, as well as testing
About the role:
We are looking for a GNSS Systems Engineer Intern to help Skydio take the GNSS systems in autonomous flying to the next level. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with excellent data analysis skills, and experience on GNSS positioning who is passionate about developing new technology.
How you'll make an impact:
- Contribute to the development of Skydio’s analysis tools to maximize the performance of on-board GNSS systems operating in a wide range of scenarios (using real live signals and GNSS simulators).
- Help us define the best methodology to rigorously characterize, validate, and tune GNSS receivers for UAV platforms
- Contribute the Skydio’s high accuracy GNSS stack - including our PPK pipeline - to achieve robust cm-level positioning, with a particular focus on photogrammetry applications
- Explore advanced GNSS integrity techniques tailored for UAV platforms
What makes you a good fit:
- Working towards an MSc or PhD with emphasis on GNSS positioning or a relevant scientific or engineering discipline
- Good software development skills with an ambition to write clean and efficient code in Python and C/C++
- Knowledge of GNSS positioning and related technologies (PPP, RTK/PPK, GNSS/INS sensor fusion, navigation integrity techniques)
- Interest or experience in photogrammetry with UAVs
- Some experience in embedded systems development
- Excellent written skills for clear reporting of data analysis and conclusions
