Job Description
Optimus seeks an organized, detail oriented Mechanical Engineer III based in Pittsburgh, PA. This is a full time (40-50 hours per week) salaried position ($102,400-$112,000) with benefits. This position is ideal for candidates with extensive experience in heavy automotive engineering, control systems, and regulatory compliance. There is a travel requirement of approximately 10-20% of work time in order to gain an intimate understanding of the practical application and long-term operation of the Vector System. The position requires significant collaboration with other electrical & mechanical engineering team members, as well as working closely with our field operations and production teams. Responsibilities
Design and development of a variety of Vector System components through system implementation, manufacturing, and production.
Utilize OEM & internally developed data to incorporate into component design
Support installation and ongoing upgrades/troubleshooting by traveling to clients’ locations for physical implementation
Coordinate and exchange technical information with peers and pertinent third-party vendors
Use of critical thinking to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems
Develop test and production plans for new products and components
Provide guidance to the less experienced team members
Keep track of all your time in a tracking application
Identify system inefficiencies and create plans to correct them
Create work instructions for assembly and quality testing
Participate and lead design review meetings and conference calls with manufacturers, subcontractors, and vendors
Complete all project and design documentation for inclusion in installation manuals and product materials
Read, interpret, and utilize appropriate technical drawings, schematics, electrical diagrams, and manuals to complete component design
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited university
5+ years of electro-mechanical engineering experience; experience in an automotive product design and manufacturing
Experience with advanced systems controls and associated software
Experience with industry standards and test plan creation based on good engineering judgment
Knowledge of regulatory compliance is a plus
Aptitude for mechanical and electrical systems
Ability to comprehend detailed product schematics and documentation
Experience with drafting technical documents (please provide samples upon request)
Proficient computer skills, especially with AutoDesk, Solidworks, and the ability to learn additional software programs as necessary
Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability and willingness to work with other team members to solve problems
Proven ability to work independently and under pressure with little to no supervision when necessary
Detail-oriented with good organizational skills in prioritizing, scheduling, and time management
