Here are the problems you’ll be solving
In this role, you’ll play a crucial part in establishing and maintaining financial stability and integrity. You’ll oversee financial operations, ensuring accurate reporting and compliance with regulatory requirements. We’re a startup, so this is an opportunity to work across all teams and meaningfully contribute to strategic growth initiatives and our overall financial health. The ideal candidate brings a wealth of accounting experience, intellectual curiosity, and a desire for ownership.
Responsibilities
Ownership is a cornerstone of the employee experience. With that, we take pride in fostering an environment where our teammates can take the initiative for their growth and the success of their team & organization. Here are some responsibilities this role will own.Month-End Close Oversight:
- Manage and review the month-end close process.
- Review work prepared by our Senior Accountant and provide feedback.
- Learn from the data and experiences each month-end close to improve internal processes and communication.
Financial Reporting:
- Collaborate with other teams to address financial reporting issues and investigate variances in revenue and other financial metrics. Can you fix the cause of the variance at the root or do you need to create a procedure to address the results?
- Coordinate the planning, execution, and retrospective for our annual audit processes.
- Anticipate challenges and identify potential risks in our processes. Can you spot a small problem and fix it before it becomes a big problem?
- Craft controls as needed for effectiveness and efficiency.
Technical Work Product:
- Take ownership of the technical accuracy of financial deliverables and adherence to accounting standards + internal policies.
- Drive the timely and accurate completion of financial activities, including: quarterly sales compensation, retailer royalties, inventory reconciliations, state tax compliance, and departmental budget reviews.
- Mentor and provide expertise in accounting principles + best practices to our Senior Accountant.
Team Partnership:
- Ask questions to guide better financial decision-making, including championing our spending mindset of “What will it cost if we don’t spend it?”.
- Co-create internal standards + policies with other teams to ensure they’re right-sized for our current stage and allow us the flexibility to scale.
Support for People Functions:
- Participate in payroll + benefits processing and reconciliation.
- Implement a cadence to audit federal and state payroll tax compliance.
- Assist the People team with activities such as compensation analysis and structure + viability of sales compensation plans.

Qualifications
- You bring a deep technical accounting background, CPA preferred.
- You enjoy finding the root cause of variances or creating a process to address them
- You have experience in GAAP financial reporting, compliance to regulatory requirements, and creating + sticking to internal controls + processes.
- You’re a creative problem-solver and can generate many paths forward.
- You know Excel, but more importantly, you know what to do with the results.
- You’re inquisitive and often find yourself asking “why?”.
- You don’t just deliver the numbers; you get to know the story they’re telling.
- You balance digging into the details with lifting up for strategic thinking.
- You value direct communication, learning by trying, and having levity at work.
- You’re looking for the kind of balance public accounting doesn’t provide.
- You’ve partnered with People teams before or have a strong interest in learning.
Compensation
As a part of our commitment to transparency, we use a market-based formula that provides consistency across roles & experience levels and publish all of our compensation data internally for our team. We’re open to a range of experience levels for this position. Here are the annual salaries for each level:
