The Role
We are growing our investment team and looking to hire associates and VPs. This is a rare opportunity to work closely and directly with the WndrCo partners on every aspect of the investing business - sourcing and assessing investment opportunities, building new companies, and collaborating closely with exceptional founders building in the future of work and consumer tech.
What We Look For
Hustle: You should be proactive and develop a keen aptitude for identifying promising investment opportunities. While sourcing is not the sole focus of this role, we expect every investment team member to develop deal flow over time.
Intellectual Curiosity: You should demonstrate genuine passion and curiosity about new products, technologies, and industry trends. This extends to interest in general business history and the evolution of markets and business models over time.
Thorough and Efficient Research: We evaluate thousands of deals per year, and we expect you to do research and diligence with speed and efficiency to uncover key insights.
Analytical Rigor: You should be fluent in assessing and valuing businesses from financial and quantitative data, including market sizing, funnel assessment, and cohort-based retention.
Strong and Persuasive Communicator: You should have strong verbal and written communication skills. You should be able to present and defend your viewpoints with conviction, while being flexible to revise them based on new evidence. We expect you to write investment memos that are clear, brief, and incisive.
Comfort with Dynamic Work Environment: You should be comfortable in a fast-paced, startup-like environment, demonstrating high self-motivation and ability to juggle many workstreams and projects.
Key Responsibilities
Deal Sourcing: Actively source new investment opportunities through networking, organizing dinners and events, and direct outreach. Build and maintain relationships with founders and peer VC investors.
Investment Analysis: Lead due diligence of active investment opportunities, including market research, dogfooding products, reading reviews and forums, calls with experts in our network and via online platforms. Lead the drafting of investment memos for investments.
Investment Research: Develop subject matter expertise in specific subsectors, produce and publish research on industry trends and potential investments.
Portfolio Management: Assist in ongoing support of portfolio companies and assisting with strategic initiatives: fundraising, market analysis, M&A.
Qualifications
At least 2 years of work experience in one or more of the following:
finance or management consulting, preferably working w/ technology companies
seed or venture capital
a startup or larger tech company in a role where you built the product or sold the product
Strong personal network in technology and startup ecosystem
A technical background is a strong plus but not required
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a technical domain (e.g. computer science, physics, math)
Location
We strongly believe that investing is an apprenticeship business, and much of the learning comes from in-person discussions and working collegially as a team. This is an in-person role at our office in Redwood City (except when you're meeting founders).
