What We Do
We raise the quality level of audio in all Epic game titles and technologies as well as engage with a world-class team to create amazing gaming experiences.
What You'll Do
As Audio Director for the Harmonix audio team at Epic Games, you’ll lead and support a world-class team to create best-in-class music and music game experiences. You’ll help drive the development of exciting music game and music creation features and future Unreal audio engine development. Help us do our best work and make the greatest music game experiences the world has ever seen!
In this role, you will
- Lead a world-class audio team to achieve audio excellence in our interactive music and music game experiences and related technologies
- Relentlessly drive the highest quality audio and music gameplay that Harmonix develops
- Act as part audio lead, part game designer – music is our gameplay, and the Audio Director is essential in helping us succeed in developing compelling, culture-shifting music gameplay
- Advocate for and assist in the development of audio features and integration for future Unreal audio engine development
- Collaborate with diverse teams and disciplines to create effective audio and audio engine technology for products across the studio
- Troubleshoot audio issues and optimize to meet memory budget and performance requirements across multiple platforms
What we're looking for
- Excited to manage a small, powerhouse audio team and support them in doing their best and most fulfilling work, as well as managing and supporting external audio contractors
- Proficient in all aspects of music production: composing, arranging, recording, mixing, etc., and in a variety of genres
- Must have shipped game titles that made a significant contribution in the music space and have at least 5 years as part of a game audio team
- Extensive audio engineering and DAW familiarity: Reaper, Ableton, ProTools, Logic, etc.
- Familiarity or experience with Unreal Editor 5.x, Blueprint, and Unreal’s audio tools
- Knowledge of music theory: understands keys, modes, scales, chords, voicings, rhythms, improvisation, etc.
- Able to accurately transcribe rhythms, pitches, chords/harmony
- Range of audio skills, including the ability to design, record, create & integrate SFX, and create music & SFX for cutscenes/video
- Can creatively adapt work to fit needed memory or CPU constraints and strong aesthetic judgment to make good and interesting musical/audio choices
- Excellent communicator & can facilitate communication and connection with other disciplines and leads (designers, programmers, artists, producers) across all of Epic Games
This role is open to multiple locations (including CA & WA).

The expected annual base pay range(s) for this position are detailed below. Each base pay range is relevant only for individuals who are residents of or will be expected to work within the specified locale. Compensation varies based on a variety of factors, which include (but aren’t limited to) things such as skills and competencies, qualifications, knowledge, and experience.
