About the team/role

The Director, Compliance Operations will play a strategic role in managing and streamlining compliance-based processes that support Checkr's customers and ensure the Operations team can consistently deliver an amazing customer experience while ensuring all processes are compliant with the FCRA, internal policies and procedures, and State and Local laws. The Director will be responsible for overseeing a large team of Disputes, Quality Assurance, and other compliance operations professionals, ensuring optimal performance, productive collaboration, and the consistent delivery of high-quality services.

What you’ll do


  • Lead and manage teams responsible for operational compliance practices and investigations management.
  • Owner for key compliance performance metrics like Dispute turnaround time and Quality measures. Identify opportunities for continuous improvement 
  • Drive continuous improvement to bridge gaps in decision-making or processes or deliver training and remediation plans. Develop, deliver, and maintain standard operating procedures and training for internal compliance initiatives and optimize team performance to meet critical KPIs and daily productivity targets 
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify and investigate complex compliance risk issues to solve problems at the root cause. Use data to optimize processes, creatively solve problems, track results, and proactively explore problems and potential solutions to ensure maximum possible accuracy of investigations in compliance with FCRA
  • Communicate cross-functionally to ensure timely resolutions and information integrity. Ideate and execute on improvements for current processes, systems, and tools in partnership with our compliance, product and engineering teams. Collaborate with internal teams to understand evolving trends and risks and the effectiveness of our compliance controls, workflows and supporting systems and redefine the quality and timeliness of dispute resolution
  • Collaborate with product and engineering teams to improve quality and accuracy, compliance, and uplevel tooling.

What you bring


  • Bachelor's Degree in HR, Compliance, Business Management or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 8+ years of experience in a leadership role in a fast-paced, high-growth environment. 
  • Experience in risk, fraud, audits, compliance, or trust & safety operations is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in hiring, managing, and developing high-performing teams.
  • Strong analytical mindset with proficiency in data-driven decision making.
  • Knowledge of Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), related employment laws and Background Check industry experience is a plus.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-awareness and a passion for innovation, quality, compliance and improving the customer experience.

We use geographic cost of labor as an input to develop ranges for our roles and as such, each location where we hire may have a different range. If this role is remote, we have listed the top to the bottom of the possible range, but we will specify the target range for an exact location when you are selected for a recruiting discussion.
