We have an immediate need for an Electrical Engineer with experience in designing and developing electrical subsystems for use in computers, test equipment, test fixtures, displays, and computer peripherals. Responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to: oversite, research, design, development, documentation, testing, and production of electrical subsystems for use in computers, test equipment, test fixtures, displays, and computer peripherals. Previous technical experience with military computing technology is highly desired.This job will be conducted from our Sugar Land, Texas office.
Subject to Systel needs, meeting initial training requirements, and maintaining productivity expectations, the employee may be eligible to work from home up to two days per week.
The Work
- Design Engineering
- Design high-speed printed circuit boards.
- Create computer system interconnect diagrams and/or wiring diagrams.
- Design high speed cables and interconnects.
- Direct and advise the creation of embedded firmware designs.
- Design test fixtures, and test plans for various electrical equipment.
- Manage preliminary, critical, and final design reviews.
- Create, review, and revise Requirement Traceability Matrices (RTM).
- Design for Manufacturability (DFM)
- Documentation
- Create reference, build, and assembly documentation for printed circuit boards and assemblies.
- Create reference and assembly documentation for computer system interconnects and wiring.
- Create Interface Control Documents (ICD), test plans, programming instructions, and miscellaneous instructions for all designs.
- Complete all documentation within Systel’s document management system.
- Revise existing documentation as needed through Systel’s engineering change process.
- Prototyping
- Direct individual component prototype, build, and test.
- Assist with system prototype build and test.
- Review prototypes and incorporate lessons learned into designs.
- Support
- Assist in the creation of product specification documents.
- Participate in quote, contract, and design reviews.
- Complete electrical engineering specific support requests including engineering change requests, customer technical support escalations, manufacturing problems or questions, component supply problems, component end-of-life, etc.
- Sustaining Engineering: Continuous support for existing product or product lines for issues such as End of Life, Internal/External customer changes or revisions, component/system failure, and new configurations.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5 years’ related to printed circuit board design and electronic systems design.
- 2 years’ experience related to the packaging of electronic equipment/systems.
- Altium Designer schematic capture and layout
- FPGA gateware design (VHDL or Verilog)
- Computer system build, config, and test (CPU, SDRAM, GPU, BIOS, Drivers, Windows, Linux)
- Familiarity with ERP and MRP systems.
Minimum Qualifications
- BSEE or BSCE: Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
- Knowledge of high-speed digital interfaces (PCI express, USB 3.0, DisplayPort, DVI, Ethernet, etc.)
- Knowledge of low-speed digital interfaces (I2C, SPI, UART, USB 2.0, CAN, etc.)
- Knowledge of MIL-STD-1275, MIL-STD-704, MIL-STD-461, DO-160, ATX, COM Express, 2014/30/EU
- Schematic capture using electrical CAD package (Altium preferred).
- Electrical CAD parts library management.
- PCB layout using electrical CAD package (Altium preferred).
- High speed PCB layout including, impedance control, layer stack planning/management, length matching, and differential pair routing.
- High current PCB layout.
- Creation of PCB manufacturing documents.
- Computer system design including: wiring/interconnect diagrams, cable/interconnect design, electronics thermal management, and power budgeting.
- Version control for designs and documentation (git, SVN, etc.)
- Basic microcontroller firmware design and test (C or C++)
- Computer systems build, test, and troubleshoot (ATX, ITX, COM Express, VPX).
- Advanced electronics hardware troubleshooting using electrical test equipment (oscilloscope, DMM, Hipot, spectrum analyzer, etc.)
- Electromagnetic interference (EMI) testing, modeling, diagnostics, and mitigation.
- Basic electronics and cables build and modification (soldering surface mount and through hole, splicing wires, crimping, heat shrink, etc.)
- Technical written and verbal communication using Microsoft Office.
