You will join a team developingstate-of-the-art general-purpose robots designed to operate in human spaces and with human tools. It is designed to work alongside humans, mobilize to human spaces, and manipulate the world around it.We are seeking a proficient Software Engineer who possesses a solid understanding of perception principles and specializes in crafting perception sensing algorithms for robots. You will be part of our perception team which focuses on creating a real-time visual representation of the local environment around the robot and determining where it is in the world, both globally and relative to its environment. 

Responsibilities 


  • Work on integrating various sensors (stereo cameras, LIDAR, time of flight) into our perception and autonomy stack. 
  • Develop and maintain various sensor software libraries
  • Develop algorithms for sensor fusion and calibrations between multiple cameras and Lidars.
  • Characterize sensor performance and quality based on simulation and real-world testing.
  • Maintain comprehensive and accurate architecture & design documentation.
  • Deliver reliable software through code reviews, continuous integration, and automated testing.
  • Represent and lead with Apptronik's core values: CHIPC - Curiosity, Humility, Integrity, Passion, Creativity.

Must have 


  • Masters in Robotics, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or similar, or equivalent 
  • 1+ years of experience as a Software Engineer writing production-quality C++/Python code in a Linux development environment.
  • Experience implementing and deploying sensor drivers.
  • Hands-on knowledge of data structures and algorithms for image and point cloud processing and are familiar with ROS/ROS2, OpenCV and PCL/Open3d.
  • Strong theoretical understanding of camera models, calibration methods, distortion models and rectification methods.
  • Experience developing and debugging real-time, multithreaded software systems 
  • Rapid, real-world hardware experimentation and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Ability to independently research difficult open-ended problems and come to a working solution.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.

Nice to have 


  • Experience with development in Linux.
  • Experience deploying perception systems on Jetson devices.
  • General system-level understanding of robotics with the ability to communicate with an interdisciplinary team.
