Shore United Bank is seeking a
Director of Finance to join our team. The Director of Finance (“DOF”) oversees the processes for the Company’s critical accounting policies and estimates, which include the allowance for credit losses, income taxes and other critical accounting estimates as they become relevant (e.g., goodwill & bargain purchase gains, loans acquired, etc. in a business combination). In addition, the DOF oversees SOX processes and controls. The DOF oversees third-party relationships for all critical accounting policies, including the Bank’s CECL model and income taxes.
Serves as primary liaison between finance and accounting with internal and external auditors and proactively leads by anticipating potential internal control issues, while maintaining a current understanding of external industry trends. The DOF provides research and accounting position papers as needed on complex accounting issues and supports external financial reporting activities with reviews of quarterly SEC and regulatory filings.This position can be located in Shore United Bank offices in either Easton, MD or Waldorf, MD.
Essential Functions
- Design and monitor CECL model attributes. Validate model inputs and outputs. Primary responsibility for running the model monthly. Perform analysis of model results and report quarterly results to senior management and the audit committee.
- Assist Controller and CFO with Sensitivity, Liquidity and Capital Stress Testing Models
- Coordinate with other model stakeholders on data attributes, ongoing credit trends, and loans that require individual assessments.
- Primary liaison with model third party consultants
- Plan and coordinate yearly third-party model validation. Remediate validation findings as needed.
- Design and implement model SOX controls
- Provide model training as needed.
- Responsible for and leads team with SOX internal control documentation.
- Report to CAO and CFO as Finance and Accounting liaison with internal and external audit
- Support Finance team with deliverables for Audit, Credit Risk and Enterprise Risk Committees
- Work with Director of Financial Reporting to:
- Keep abreast of new accounting standards and SEC disclosure requirements. Document assessment of GAAP and SEC updates on financial reporting implications. Provide training as needed.
- Perform management level review of 10-Qs and 10-Ks for GAAP and SEC reporting compliance.
- Perform management level review of Call Reports and other regulatory filings.
- Perform detail level review of 10-Q’s and 10-K footnote and MD+A disclosure.
- Perform analysis of material/unusual transactions for GAAP considerations
- Assist in the preparation of the annual bank budget.
- Assist in special ad-hoc project as assigned.
- Participate in in junior level staff development efforts.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
- This is a full-time position, Monday-Friday. Evening and weekend work may be required in this position after each quarter close to meet internal and external deadlines and demands.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, accounting, business or a related major is required.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is preferred.
- 8 or more years of leadership experience in banking or accounting required.
- Strong knowledge of financial accounting including CECL, AML, financial modeling
