POSITION SUMMARY:
The Floater Medical Assistant will have personal interest and/or experience in a clinical setting and will perform clinical and administrative tasks for both Pediatric and Adult patients under the direct supervision of a licensed physician. All administrative functions will be evaluated by the Health Center Manager. The Floater Medical Assistant will be evaluated by the Health Center Manager in collaboration with the supervising physician(s) for their respective clinics.
As a member of the health center’s integrated care team, the Floater Medical Assistant will fulfill the following KEY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES towards the provision of patient-centered, coordinated patient care:
- Measuring and recording vital signs.
- Recording patient interview, history, and chief complaint.
- Upload external records and/or preload immunizations.
- Preparing patients for examination and performing routine screening tests.
- Phlebotomy and collection of other lab specimens.
- Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions.
- Performing EKGs.
- Skill in developing and maintaining clinical quality assurance.
- Skill in developing and resolving problems.
- Answering phones and scheduling appointments.
- Communication skills using appropriate medical terminology.
- Ability to use good reasoning and judgment and react calmly in emergency situations.
- Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with patients, medical staff, coworkers, and the public.
- Perform outreach calls to patients and/or specialty offices as requested.
- Perform Pre-Visit Planning for targeted quality measures.
- This position also requires the ability to drive between clinical sites to provide additional coverage when needed.

REQUIRED SKILLS OR ABILITIES:
- Perform sterile procedures.
- Perform cleaning specifications of various medical equipment, fixtures, utensils, and related
materials.
- Prepare and administer vaccines.
- Properly distribute inventory.
- Maintain supplies, and equipment and/or maintain quality control standards.
- Safely utilizes cleaning solvents and related products.
- Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
- Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.
- Knowledge of methods, procedures, and protocols, including federal, state, and local laws for the handling and disposal of hazardous biochemical waste products.
- Computer and data entry skills are a must.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
- Electronic Medical Record (EMR) experience preferred.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have a High school diploma or equivalent and have successfully completed and graduated from a medical assistant program with a minimum of five years of experience as a medical assistant
- Current CPR certification.
- Must have skills, ability, and temperament to train new employees.
- Must have demonstrated leadership abilities.
- Performs standard tasks associated with patient care with minimal oversight from the supervisor.
- Receipt of high-level ratings on the past 3 performance evaluations.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- The ability to distinguish letters and symbols, as well as the ability to utilize telephone, computer terminals, and copiers is required.
- May be asked to lift to or about 25 pounds.
- Work under stressful conditions within a controlled enclosed environment daily. The work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment. Required to wear scrubs and occasionally protective barrier clothing during training. This can become uncomfortable in a warm, high humidity room.
- ADA Category. This position may require prolonged periods of sedentary, standing, and/or walking for more than eight (8) hours per day. Those physical movements and the degree of mobility, manual dexterity, and hand-eye coordination normally associated with the practice of modern oral hygiene will be performed on a repetitive basis. In accordance with the American with Disabilities Act, it is possible that requirements may be modified to reasonably accommodate disabled individuals. However, no accommodations will be made which may pose serious health or safety risks to the employee or others or which impose undue hardships on the organization.
