Urban Grid is a portfolio company of Brookfield. one of the world’s largest owners and operators of renewable power and climate transition assets.We are looking for a motivated Development Engineer Intern to assist the Engineering Department in Photo Voltaic (PV) Solar System Electrical Design and supporting the Foundational goals of the Engineering team. Job duties include a range of administrative and technical tasks, including use of computer aided drafting (CAD) software, related to electrical design and site planning for solar projects. This internship offers a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the solar industry and contribute to meaningful projects throughout the United States.
This is a paid internship that will start on or around June 3, 2024, with an end date of August 9, 2024.
During the 10-week program, interns will participate in virtual, company-wide and department meetings, virtual bi-weekly Friday lunch & learn trainings and a culminating group presentation on your overall internship experience. The program is structured to provide exposure to careers in renewable energy, best practices in internal communications as part of a remote/ hybrid team and best of all, the opportunity to work and support a team of professionals who are experts in their field.
Responsibilities
- Develop an Engineering Internship Onboarding guide that features a comprehensive resource for quickly grasping foundational terminology in the solar industry.
- Compile project-level Risk Matrices and Design Summaries for the Urban Grid project portfolio while ensuring the integrity of the data for data crawl capture.
- Assist in Electrical PV Design and Site Plan Development, as needed
- Support the Foundational Goals of the Development Engineering team.
- Attend Department and Project level meetings
- Attend Weekly Check-ins with team members and supervisor.
- Intern will deliver final presentation during a lunch-and-learn in August showcasing what they learned during their internship and how they were able to leverage their academic experience to solve/revamp an issue/process.
Location
This position will be primarily remote with periodic meetups with our team. Preferably within the Eastern time zone. Candidate to work full-time hours Monday - Friday during the summer duration of the internship.
Requirements
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Engineering (Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, or related field) must be a Sophomore or above.
- Interest in renewable energy
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills. Must be able to coordinate and communicate work with multiple disciplines, and team members.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office tools: Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Strong organizational capacity to simultaneously manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines and be able to quickly adapt to changes and shift priorities to meet project needs.
- Working knowledge of both DC and three-phase AC electric system engineering and large-scale solar design concepts preferred, but not required.
- Working knowledge in electrical systems design and PV site layout using AutoCAD tools preferred, but not required.
- AutoCAD experience preferred, but not required.
- Strong work ethic and exceptionally high work standards
- Work pro-actively individually, and collaboratively within the team
- Self-motivated and work with minimal direction
