About the Role:
Using a deep understanding of building Saas-based solutions, you’ll focus on leading a team of engineers to work collaboratively with Product and Design counterparts to help provide trust and peace of mind to small businesses who are looking for tax credits. You will also shape the architectural direction, research and apply new technology such as AI, and improve development processes of the product as we scale to tens of thousands of customers, multiple tax credits, and more cross-functional teams.

What used to take months of labor intensive work can now be accomplished in minutes. We are a growing team of startup founders, CPAs, and Saas leaders with multi-million dollar revenue that are unlocking a $30b industry using Gusto’s unique payroll advantage.
Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:
- Work collaboratively with Product, Design, and Data counterparts to identify Tax Credit opportunities and define product roadmaps to capture them
- Empower healthy cross-functional scrum teams to deliver technically rigorous solutions that delight Tax Credit customers, getting hands-on when needed
- Work with engineering leadership to define architectural standards and development best practices, and encourage adoption of these standards
- Research new technologies such as AI/ML and apply them to improve process efficiency.
- Develop individual engineers to produce their best work
Here’s what we're looking for:
- 8+ years of software development experience with 5+ years of software management experience
- Experience leading Saas-based web application teams
- Experience implementing agile/scrum framework
- Strong leadership experience especially in emerging products
- Experience leading in startups and established companies a plus
Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $193,000-$231,000/yr in Denver, Chicago, and Atlanta, $211,000-$251,000/year in Los Angeles and Seattle, and $228,000-$272,000/yr for San Francisco and New York. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. Employees who are based in those locations will be expected to work from the office on designated days approximately 2-3 days per week (or more depending on role).
The same office expectations apply to all Symmetry roles, Gusto's subsidiary, whose physical office is in Scottsdale.Note: The San Francisco office expectations encompass both the San Francisco and San Jose metro areas.
