The Opportunity
Flock Safety is looking to add a Staff Camera Software Engineer to our rapidly growing Imaging Team within our Device Engineering organization. Flock Safety is continuously building more and more complex and efficient camera systems to ensure continuous development in our capture and detection quality. We are also introducing new products with added features. This role strengthens our capability to implement advanced camera features and optimize the related camera control algorithm.This position is on-site in Tampere, Finland.
The Skillset
We're looking for people with:
- Bachelors/Master of Science in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field with 5+ years experience
- Experience on developing new camera features within the Qualcomm/Android camera pipeline (Chi, Camx)
- Extensive experience on with camera software/hardware image signal processing and algorithms
- Experience on auto exposure (AE) and auto focus (AF) development and optimizations on Android platform
- Android OS and middleware development experience (C++)
- Low-level firmware software development experience (for example external MCUs)
- Familiarity with source control solutions such as (git/Github/Gerrit)
- Familiarity with modern software development practices and tools (DevOps)
- Are comfortable working cross-functionally across multiple projects
- Possess effective verbal and written communication skills
- Have humility, curiosity, and a passion for sharing knowledge
The ideal candidate will have:
- Android OS and application development experience (Java/Kotlin)
- Familiarity with Android Camera2 and MediaCodec APIs
- Ability to develop by using test-driven development
- Experience mentoring members of the team

90 Days at Flock

This serves as a preview of the 90 day plan you will receive if you were to be hired as a Staff Camera Software Engineer at Flock Safety.
The First 30 Days
- Familiarize yourself with Flock camera products, used HW components, our customer needs, and the unique challenges that our use cases introduce
- Set up environments and develop, test, and release your first software feature(s)
The First 60 Days
- Build capability to modify and build new camera features within the camera pipeline
- Take the lead on driving the Flock optimized auto exposure (AE) and autofocus (AF) development and optimizations
90 Days & Beyond
- Build plate-aware AE implementation in order to automatically optimize the plate target exposure and bracketing values
- Validate and start optimizing the camera autofocus behavior to achieve smooth and robust autofocus operations

Your recruiter will inform you of which assessment you will be assigned and ensure you are fully prepared for your big day. The Panel: Learn more about the team, responsibilities, and workflows. You should be prepared to speak about past projects, how you collaborate and communicate with others, and how you live our values.
