A World-Changing Company
At Ethyca, we're engineering trust for humanity. We believe that by building Fides, the operating system for Data Privacy & AI Governance we can solve the world's most critical and challenging problems of trust and safety in data and AI driven enterprise on behalf of every person. We partner with the most important institutions in the world to transform the safety, trust and integrity of their data and technology systems. Our software has been used to power the safety and privacy of millions of users globally.
The Role
The Ethyca Design Team is responsible for the human experience of Fides, our Data Governance and AI Operating System. Design is a small, rapidly growing team that works symbiotically within Ethyca's EPD (Engineering, Product and Design) unit. Designing at Ethyca is a rapidly iterative and widely varied experience. On a given day, you might be: delivering a design sprint within your product team; wire framing micro-interactions to make complex data engineering and data governance tasks easy to digest.
You'll be directly involved in setting the quality, vision and direction of the Fides system for a variety of personae, including business users in legal, security and data intelligence through to developer experiences for software, data and security engineers. If you believe in the importance of trust in data and AI, and in your own ability to work on high-dimensional data models with complex user experiences for Data Privacy and AI Governance, we want to meet you.
Core Responsibilities
- Interaction and visual design. As lead product designer, you'll be involved at every stage of design work. You'll help define early product concepts, flesh out the high-level workflow and micro-interactions of a feature, and execute on a crisp visual design in a complex data space. You should have experience with mockup and prototyping tools and high fidelity design tools.
- User research. Working with Product, you will lead user research in informal session, structured customer advisory boards and dedicated research. As such, you'll need to be highly agile and flexible in your research processes and methodologies to achieve the right outcome.
- Prototyping. You will prototype, both to communicate your designs and validate your decisions.
- Partnering with engineers. You will work closely product, core engineering teams and forward deployed engineering to assure the quality of your outcome. You'll treat engineers as partners and collaborate with them to rapidly release and iterate on product.
- Awareness of how software interfaces are built. Familiarity with HTML, CSS, Javascript, and Typescript is appreciated. You don't need to be an expert—just fluent enough to collaborate with engineers, and know what's possible with frontend technologies. Resources and mentorship are available to designers who want to learn more.
What we Value
- An iterative design process. Ethyca's super power is the caliber and agility of the team. You will be working with the best and brightest minds in data engineering, privacy and security; as such you should be ready to move fast, listen, adapt and learn to become an adept data governance product design expert through continuous rapid iteration from early prototype.
- Collaboration and communication. You can build great relationships with engineers, PMs, and other stakeholders—and convey your design rationale to them. To reach these audiences, you'll communicate your designs through a variety of methods: presenting your mockups, making prototypes, sharing a design spec and writing compelling design stories.
- Thoughtful, intentional work. You know the surface layer doesn’t exist in a vacuum and form informs function and usability. Given Fides' complexity you should understand your design decisions deeply impact the engineering outcomes and success of our business and developer users.
- Dedication to the user. You'll design software that changes how people use data at some of the world's most important organizations. To do this successfully you must ruthlessly seek to understand the broad cross-section of users that interact with Fides, from the data management interface through to CLI integrations and developer experiences.
