Position Overview:


Love building relationships, finding stunning artwork around the world, and getting deals done? Join our world-class acquisitions team, the most active buyer in contemporary art where you will see and find more art than anyone else in the market.We are looking for a savvy, resourceful, and diligent business-getter to join our Acquisitions Team in New York as a Senior Contemporary Art Specialist. You will find, negotiate, and close on art acquisition opportunities meeting our investment criteria, while collaborating with an incredible global team, combining a passion for art with thoughtful and data-driven deal-making.

You Will:


  • Develop and deepen relationships with collectors, dealers, galleries, and advisors
  • Source and skillfully negotiate acquisition opportunities by artists like Lynette Yiadom-Boakye, Keith Haring, and Joan Mitchell at price points generally in excess of $1 million
  • Support our best-in-class art operations team to execute the transactions you bring in, including viewings and condition assessments
  • Generate new business through art fairs, collector events, and exhibitions
  • Relay and collaborate about important art market intelligence and developments
  • Be an important voice in developing which target artists we are adding to the portfolio

Ideal You:


  • Art Market Background: 5-15+ years experience in art market deal-making roles, whether as an advisor, dealer, auction house, or gallery professional
  • You know contemporary art priced $500K+
  • You know what makes for good or poor examples by an artist
  • You might not be an appraiser, but you have a good feel for how to price artwork
  • You love to navigate transactions
  • You are not afraid to have direct conversations to get deals done
  • You are super organized, high energy, and love multitasking

What You’ll Get Done in the First 90 Days:


  • Master our deal criteria, our target artists, and our business model and pitch.
  • Start interacting with 50+ potential new partners and clients
  • Source 100+ works to research for potential fit
  • Successfully complete a number of acquisitions
  • Engage in regular client meetings, building appropriate strategies around key clients

Additional Requirements:


  • Must be eligible for full-time US work - no exceptions.
  • Must be able to work from our NYC office

How does Masterworks think about compensation?


The compensation range for the role is $125-175k (inclusive only of base salary, and exclusive of other potential competitive benefits such as on-target commission, bonus payments, and equity). Our ranges are very broad to accommodate all types of candidates and encourage growth. Specific compensation offered to a candidate may be dependent on factors such as education, experience, qualifications, and alignment with market data. Exceptional candidates may receive salaries outside of the posted ranges.
