 Phlow is currently seeking a Vice President of Business Development for Contract Development and Manufacturing Solutions (Phlow's CDMO business).This position will lead business development efforts for our U.S.-based active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) development and manufacturing services. This CDMO business vertical is focused on the application of advanced processes (including flow chemistry) to pharmaceutical ingredient development and utilizes Phlow’s new, state-of-the art laboratories and continuous and batch manufacturing facilities.

The ideal candidate is a senior-level self-starter with deep CDMO industry experience and a professional that is excited to be part of an innovative, aggressively growing advanced contract development and manufacturing organization. This is a rare opportunity to join a proven, but growing organization at an early stage and to not only continue the growth momentum, but also be part of defining the organization’s future.Critical success factors for the role include identifying, developing, and nurturing new strategic business relationships; filling the sales funnel through existing and new relationships; leading, developing and managing the business development team; efficiently partnering with cross-functional leaders (e.g., Operations, Science & Technology, including chemists and chemical engineers, Legal, Regulatory and Marketing) and serving as a visible ambassador for Phlow’s customer base.

Must have an established network within the pharmaceutical and biotech industry.Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prospect pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies seeking CDMO services to qualify new small molecule API projects and demonstrate Phlow’s “white glove” approach as a world class, customized solutions provider for advanced development and manufacturing 
  • Drive small molecule development projects as well as initial manufacturing projects for the company’s new U.S.-based kilo and metric ton scale facilities
  • Lead, coach, develop, and manage the Business Development team, which includes ongoing evaluation of team structure and resources. Position the team for success including training / implementation of training programs
  • Manage the entire CDMO business cycle including outreach, prospecting/identification, qualification of leads, contract negotiations and deal close; Fill the sales funnel through existing and new relationships 
  • Sales budget planning. Defining and being accountable for revenue, profit and cost management goals
  • Represent Phlow as a senior level leader at major industry events and tradeshows, both domestic and international
  • Effectively prioritize and track progress of team’s business development efforts. and thrive in fast-paced, early-stage, high-growth environment
  • Work closely with Marketing to provide voice-of-customer feedback, collaborate on strategy, sales training, outreach, conferences and supporting material needs (presentations, booth, sales tools, etc.) to drive funnel growth, and evolve Phlow’s CDMO value proposition 

RequirementsExperience & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant sciences required; post graduate scientific degree preferred
  • 15+ years of combined business development/sales and scientific/technical experience in the biopharmaceutical CDMO, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or life sciences industries; at least 5 of those spent selling CDMO/CRO services
  • Sales team management experience required
  • Strong, existing customer network with positive relationships and in-depth knowledge of agreement negotiation and execution from a previous CDMO business development role
  • Experience/understanding of the proposal development process, business quotes, budgeting, and managing-to-defined timelines
  • CRM tool experience and willingness to use
  • Strong initiative and ability to multi-task, set priorities and have fun while doing it
  • Good knowledge of the drug development process
  • Highly motivated and able to work independently
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook is required 
  • Ability to travel, domestic and internationally 10-20%, as required.

Physical Requirements

  • Constantly required to see to utilize computer screens and monitors to perform job duties including reading & writing, as well as when presenting information and communicating with others.
  • Frequently required to talk or hear to communicate with employees, candidates, vendors, and others, including presenting information in front of groups.
  • Frequently required to reach with arms and hands performing repetitive motions and using finger dexterity to work primarily at a computer keyboard and with a mouse.
  • Frequently required to sit, and frequently required to stand or walk to move around primarily in an office environment 
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
