What you’ll do

Position Overview:
As the Battery Safety/Regulations Engineer, you will be at the forefront of defining and implementing safety measures and regulatory compliance for our electric vehicle battery systems. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to navigate and adhere to industry standards, ensuring the highest safety standards are met. This position requires a deep understanding of battery safety, regulatory requirements, and a passion for contributing to the success of an electric vehicle startup.
Key Responsibilities:
Battery Safety Compliance:- Ensure battery systems comply with safety standards and regulations, including but not limited to UN38.3, ISO 26262, and other relevant industry standards.
- Conduct safety assessments and risk analyses to identify and address potential safety issues.
Regulatory Compliance:- Stay abreast of global regulations affecting electric vehicle batteries.
- Collaborate with regulatory bodies and agencies to ensure compliance with regional and international standards.
Safety Documentation:- Develop and maintain safety documentation, including safety plans, hazard analyses, and safety cases.
- Prepare and submit documentation required for regulatory approvals and certifications.
Testing and Validation:- Collaborate with testing and validation teams to design and execute safety tests for battery systems.
- Analyze test data and implement improvements based on safety performance.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:- Work closely with hardware and software engineering teams to integrate safety features into battery system designs.
- Collaborate with external partners, suppliers, and testing agencies to ensure alignment with safety standards.
Continuous Improvement:- Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to battery safety and regulatory compliance.
- Provide expertise and guidance on emerging safety technologies and standards.
Location & Travel Expectations: The responsibilities of this role require attendance at in-person meetings and events regularly. This role will be based out of the Scout Motors location in Novi, MI. Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time.

- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
- 5+ years’ experience in battery safety engineering, preferably in the electric vehicle industry.
- In-depth knowledge of safety standards and regulations related to battery systems.
- Experience with safety analysis tools and methodologies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.

Pay Transparency
This is a full-time, exempt position eligible to receive a base salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent.Initial base salary range = $120,000-$135,000Internal leveling code: IC9
