The Press Assistant will provide onsite and remote support to the Digital and Press Teams within PA.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with writing press memos for the Secretary of Energy, the Deputy Secretary of Energy, and other senior officials
- Assist with writing and editing press releases for the Department of Energy as well as media advisories
- Coordinate interview requests between reporters, energy professionals, and experts
- Manage staff interviews and events for the Secretary of Energy and other senior officials
- Assist with strategies for the integration of public relations and outreach activities, including recommendations of agency positions on particular issues, press conferences, releases, and public appearances of all DOE officials
- Research or develop and recommend programs, promotional engagements, and projects to be included in the communications and/or outreach plan
- Identify policies and objectives and ensure the communications strategy is operationalized and executed appropriately at the assigned levels Interpret statistical data to evaluate communication program effectiveness
- Compile and study the analytics of energy.gov webpages and the @ENERGY and Secretary Granholm social media pages for research and strategy purposes
- Prepare briefings and memos for senior Departmental and Public Affairs officials and write copy for the @ENERGY and Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm social media pages
- Publish a blog on the Department of Energy's website, energy.gov
- Compile weekly and daily press clippings to track media coverage of DOE's press releases, the Secretary of Energy's speaking engagements, and public affairs activities
Requirements
- Minimum of US Citizenship required to obtain client-issued Public Trust
- Four years of experience developing/drafting strategic media and communications plans
- One year or one campaign cycle of communications experience or experience at a communications/public relations firm, government or political environment, or journalism
- Experience interfacing with media, journalists, and media literacy
- Experience developing/drafting strategic media and communications plans
- Experience coordinating across organizations/ working collaboratively on complex projects
- General knowledge of and passion for clean energy and climate change policy
- Interest in research, messaging, and promoting/explaining policy
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Excellent attention to detail and an understanding of fundamental business writing
- Expertise in Microsoft Office Products (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree
