We are looking for a committed Principal Systems Engineer to join our Systems Engineering team and help solve unique, challenging problems for our Defense and Homeland Security customers.

This position requires a U.S. security clearance or the ability to obtain one. A top-secret security clearance is preferred. This position will require one to be onsite periodically and within a 30 mile distance of Alexandria, VA.


WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING


  • Leading, coaching, evaluating, and mentoring a team of System Engineers
  • Develop and capture system specifications and related formal and informal documentation to communicate system design concepts
  • Contribute to developing integration & test plans / procedures / schedules
  • Contribute to organizing, capturing, and synthesizing concise and comprehensive system design artifacts throughout the development life cycle
  • Communicate, evolve, and implement systems engineering processes across project teams
  • Support continuous systems engineering, user experience, and Agile development processes
  • Provide capabilities to trace and analyze coverage between user and system requirements; system design elements; system implementation; and system test artifacts. Identify, capture and evolve system performance requirements and design guidance to help achieve key performance parameters
  • Ensure functional and non-functional requirements are understood and satisfied by working closely with the software design and development team during design and development process
  • Capture system concepts, architectures, high-level, and detail designs by working directly with both software team leads and developers as well as subject matter experts
  • Contribute to key system execution and monitoring activities to help both understand and achieve desired system performance characteristics
  • Provide engagement support with external systems providers where necessary to both establish and maintain successful external system connectivity
  • Collect, organize, synthesize, and capture mission, user, and system requirements from multiple stakeholders to inform a unified product strategy through user-centered design principles and systems engineering best practices
  • Participate in user engagement sessions with key stakeholders to design, deconflict, prioritize and validate product requirements at varying levels of fidelity
  • Generate user stories with clear acceptance criteria that trace to the product strategy / roadmap
  • Support development and validation of low to high-fidelity wireframes by working closely with User Experience (UX) experts in support of product implementation

  • Performed requirements analysis for complex systems with multiple stakeholders
  • Decomposed and generated low-level requirements needed for implementation
  • Documented system and software designs at different levels of abstraction
  • Collaborated with business, technical, and mission stakeholders to develop the optimal solution to an ill-defined problem
  • Worked directly with end-users to elicit specified and derived user needs using exceptional communication skills
  • Worked directly with software development personnel to elicit and capture detailed system design information
  • Experience with integrating user-centered design principles into rapid software development

EVEN BETTER


  • Documented RESTful API Interfaces
  • Experience with API design and documentation best practices
  • Developed and maintained project and corporate systems engineering processes
  • Communicate system requirements and design to customers through briefings and presentations
  • Performed as Project / Technical Lead Identify and reuse existing / emerging technologies
  • Experience working on DoD/IC-related projects and programs
  • Experience using Model Based Systems Engineering Approaches, in particular MagicDraw or C4 software architecture modeling approaches
  • Experience using UML, SysML, or UPDM standards in an MBSE modeling environment
  • Experience with system / process modeling packages such as ExtendSim, ProModel, or similar
  • Experience with any of the following frameworks and development tools: React, Spring, Maven, Git, AWS, Azure, Elastic, Hadoop and other big data technologies
