Making Cents International is recruiting a Research and Analysis Lead for the USAID Guatemala Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Prevention and Response activity. This activity aims to reduce the negative social and economic impacts of GBV in targeted areas of Guatemala, contributing to longer-term stability of the country aligned with U.S. national security objectives. The activity will achieve this goal through achievement of four objectives:
Prevention of GBV at community, municipal and national levels increased.Response to GBV strengthened by increasing capacity of key stakeholders.Recovery and empowerment of GBV victims and survivors increased.Improved research and analysis of GBV and its impact on development, national security, and migration.The Research and Analysis Lead will oversee the activity’s strategic approach and implementation under Objective 4, improving GBV research and analysis. The Research and Analysis Lead will build capacity for action-oriented, utilization-focused research within the local ecosystem. This will involve partnering with civil society organizations, think tanks, and local and international universities to conduct in-depth research under the following sub-results:- Sub-IR 4.1: Conduct research and analysis that compiles evidence on GBV and the link to U.S. national security and irregular migration.
- Expected result – Proposal for research strategy, objectives and questions presented to USAID during Year 1.
- Expected result – Final research document presented to USAID for approval annually.
- Sub-IR 4.2: Conduct analysis and research on GBV impact on economic and social development in Guatemala.
- Expected result - Annual report on analysis of the impact of GBV on economic and social development in targeted areas of intervention.
- Sub- IR 4.3: Analyze and propose reforms to legal framework and public policy to address GBV.
- Expected result - At least two analyses on proposed reforms to the legal framework and public policy regarding GBV are reviewed and presented to USAID and Guatemalan National Congress per year.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic oversight and technical direction for the implementation of Objective 4.
- Co-design and co-implement the activity’s research strategy with partners.
- Work closely with subcontractors and partners to facilitate mentorship and diverse, rigorous research on GBV and migration in Guatemala.
- Work with the Chief of Party, Deputy Chief of Party, and Objective Leads to ensure research strategy is integrated across activities for evidence-based implementation.
- Partner with and strengthen the capacity of CSOs, think tanks, and universities to conduct action-oriented research.
- Provide planning and quality control of all expected results and deliverables under Objective 4.
- Ensure research is disseminated to relevant stakeholders at the national and local levels and within the project in a way that generates uptake.
- Lead establishment and subsequent leadership of a Research Advisory Board comprised of stakeholders representing diverse geographic regions and populations to ensure research is inclusive, follows ethical standards, and contributes to the activity’s learning agenda and research questions.
- Collaborate with the Monitoring and Evaluation team and Objective Leads to design a GBV baseline and annual awareness surveys.
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field and at least 8 years of experience designing and overseeing action-oriented, utilization-focused qualitative and mixed methods research activities.
- Subject matter expertise in GBV with at least one of the following focuses: migration; economic and social development; and legal frameworks and public policy preferred.
- Strong understanding of ethical standards and considerations for research related to GBV and engaging with communities in research design, implementation, and dissemination.
- Guatemalan national residing in Guatemala.
- Written and oral fluency in English and Spanish.
