ITS Engineer, Project Delivery

We believe that the future of transportation is automated.

Automated travel will be safer, more comfortable, more efficient and a powerful economic enabler for our communities. However, automating driving is a massively complex engineering challenge, requiring vehicles to navigate social norms, regional traffic patterns, unpredictable weather incidents, and a host of anomalous events. While billions of dollars have already been spent trying to solve this problem, a comprehensive answer remains frustratingly elusive. We believe that the final answer lies with roadway infrastructure.

Join us in building the roads of the future.

Cavnue, which in April 2022 announced the
closing of its Series A at $130M, is bridging technology and road infrastructure to realize a safer, more efficient, and more accessible future for automated transportation. Cavnue’s experienced team sits at the intersection of technology, infrastructure, and government—working together to develop and deploy the world’s most advanced roads. We are incorporating physical and digital infrastructure that unlock the full spectrum of capabilities of current and future automated vehicle technologies.

We believe in a world in which road infrastructure shares in the complexity of autonomy and, instead of being another problem to solve for, becomes a core part of the solution.

The Role

As an ITS Engineer, you will be a critical part of Cavnue’s Project Delivery team, a rapidly growing and vital function within the organization. In this role, you will be primarily responsible for our ITS (intelligent transportation systems) design, deployment and integration into our projects. You will work closely with our Hardware, Systems, Software, and Product teams on all of this work. We are looking for an individual that is passionate about the future of roads, who is willing to think creatively, and is ready to roll up their sleeves and do the work necessary to help build Cavnue’s next set of projects.

Role overview:

Project Delivery support:

  • Plan, manage, and monitor aspects of large multi-disciplinary ITS projects.
  • Lead the development of plans, specifications, and estimates for freeway and arterial ITS systems, including fiber optic and wireless communications systems, power distribution systems, CCTV, DMS, advanced vehicle detection systems, V2X Roadside Units, RWIS, traffic signal interconnect, transit signal priority, lighting control systems, and other ITS technologies and sub-systems, such as freeway open road tolling and managed lanes technologies.
  • Collaborate on systems engineering analyses, ITS architectures, concept of operations, ITS and TSM&O master plans, TMC standard operational procedures and performance measures guidelines, ITS design plans, ITS equipment specifications, along with subsequent testing, operations and maintenance activities.
  • Interact with Cavnue’s clients and team members independently to maintain appropriate communication.

Commercial support:

  • Support and manage the development of Cavnue roadway assessment scans.
  • Focus on developing high-level corridor plans that may include 10% conceptual designs and project cost estimates.
  • Lead and manage the internal and external teams required to support these deliverables.
  • Provide technical support to the Commercial team as part of meetings and analyses, and support the development of proposals.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or closely related fields, with 4+ years of experience preferably in supporting ITS projects.
  • Experience with project budgets, quality control, and adherence to project schedules.
  • The ability to work with a team to develop construction drawings, specifications, and construction cost estimates.
  • Experience in the development of plans using Bentley platform products (PowerGeoPak and OpenRoads) for ITS and Signal infrastructure, and AGI32 for roadway illumination analysis and design.
  • Professional Engineer (Michigan or Texas preferred and the ability to obtain a license within 3 months in states where Cavnue is developing projects).
  • The ability to perform field work as required.
  • The credentials to work as the Engineer of Record for signalization and ITS (including fiber/wireless communications and devices) of final design projects. Develop project design criteria, design calculations, construction details, quantities, and cost estimates.
  • The initiative to solve problems and keep up to date on the latest innovations in ITS.

Life at Cavnue

Our mission at Cavnue is to build the world's most advanced roads, that are safer, offer greater throughput, improve access to affordable and high-quality public transit and shared mobility, and enable more efficient movement of goods. At Cavnue, we are developing and integrating technologies that will power the world's most technologically connected roads (“cavnues”). While billions have been invested into developing on-vehicle technologies - including advanced driver assistance systems (“ADAS”) and fully autonomous driving solutions - a small fraction has been spent on developing infrastructure to support and enhance advanced roads. At Cavnue, we are developing and integrating technologies that will power the world's most technologically connected roads (“cavnues”). Our approach is centered around creating a digital model of a roadway that analyzes and optimizes road conditions in real-time, shares information, and provides proactive guidance to vehicles and drivers. This supports enhanced safety, efficiency, and road operating environments. Cavnue allows public and private owners and operators of roads, and transportation systems, to prepare for and take advantage of the upcoming revolution in connected and autonomous vehicles. Cavnue's technology will power next-generation autonomous mobility systems for passenger and freight transportation, by developing the infrastructure technologies required for dedicated CAV laneways.
