About the role
As a Red Hat OpenShift Engineer, you will be responsible for the configuration, management, maintenance, and support of the client’s Red Hat OpenShift environment. This includes managing and deploying applications, ensuring optimal performance and uptime, and providing support and guidance to development teams on container and Kubernetes best practices.
Responsibilities:
- System Configuration & Management
- Configure, deploy, and manage the Red Hat OpenShift platform for a DOD standard
- Develop scripts for the automated deployment and management of resources.
- Application Deployment & Management:
- Manage application deployments on the OpenShift platform, working closely with development teams to implement Docker and Kubernetes if required.
- Performance Monitoring & Optimization:
- Monitor the performance of the OpenShift platform and applications, using both command-line and GUI tools.
- Optimize performance and resource utilization based on monitoring data.
- Plan future case analysis expected availability vs. capacity, and make recommendations for procurement and architecture upgrades.
- Troubleshooting & Support:
- Coordinates with Project Management, Security, and Asset Management, Customer Service, and Helpdesk teams as necessary for problem support and project management.
- Provide support to development and operations teams in the use of OpenShift.
- Troubleshoot issues and implement fixes in coordination with these teams.
- Performs Tier III problem management, isolation, and resolution.
- Security & Compliance:
- Implement and monitor security controls to ensure the integrity and confidentiality of the OpenShift environment.
- Participates in RMF Security Audits, scanning and mitigation of internal findings, and coordinate security patches, IAVAs, and mitigations as required.
- Installs and upgrades software updates and security patches.
- Familiarity with DoD Security Technical Implementation Guide and Network Certification and Accreditation
- Documentation & Reporting:
- Document systems and network infrastructure in various written formats (VISIO, MS Project, Word, etc.)
- Document all configurations, procedures, and changes.
- Prepare regular reports on system performance, availability, and compliance.
- Training & Mentoring:
- Train and mentor other IT staff and developers in the use of OpenShift, Docker, and Kubernetes.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or comparable experience.
- Information Assurance/DoD 85708570 Compliance IAT Level II or higher (Security+, SSCP, or CCNA-Security active certification required)
- Professional certifications such as Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) or Red Hat Certified Specialist in OpenShift Administration.
- Minimum of five years hand-on experience performing network engineering in a DoD Environment is required
- Minimum of three years of experience in managing OpenShift environments. Experience in working with Docker and Kubernetes is essential.
- Strong understanding of OpenShift, Docker, and Kubernetes. Familiarity with Linux system administration, shell scripting, networking, and security. Proficiency in a programming language, such as Python or Java, is a plus.
Preferred
:
- Experience with Red Hat OpenShift, Red Hat CloudForms, Red Hat Advanced Cluster Management, and Ansible automation.
- Experience with cloud computing and different cloud providers like Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, Google Compute Platform, or IBM Cloud
- Experience working in DevOps environments.
- Software engineering background; experience with RPM-based Linux and Java technologies
- Experience deploying applications in cloud environments.
- Experience developing containerized applications.
- Comprehension of continuous integration (CI) and continuous delivery (CD) concepts
- Familiarity with source code management tools like Git or Apache Subversion
- Prior experience in a technical leadership or mentorship role
