Human Factors Engineer, Expert


, with a profound expertise in research, an acute awareness of industry trends, and an advanced application of state-of-the-art knowledge in human factors engineering. This pivotal role demands a doctorate degree in human factors engineering, ergonomics, or a related field, coupled with a minimum of 12 years of in-depth experience. The chosen candidate will play a critical role in guiding product and process designs with sophisticated evaluations, strategic insights, and innovative design enhancements to optimize user experience and ensure safety. Please note this position is contingent upon award.

Primary Responsibilities:


  • Lead cutting-edge research and apply the latest in human factors findings and methods to the assessment and improvement of products and processes. 
  • Design and implement comprehensive strategies for product and process evaluations, leveraging advanced human factors engineering techniques to identify risks, enhance performance, and boost user satisfaction. 
  • Offer expert recommendations for product or process redesigns, focusing on minimizing negative impacts and enhancing user experience and safety. 
  • Utilize exceptional foresight to understand how proposed design changes will impact a diverse user base and ensure that modifications cater to all user needs. 
  • Provide insightful contributions during live demo calls, adeptly adjusting strategies based on real-time feedback from participants during user sessions. 
  • Articulate complex human factors issues to both the engineering team and end users with clarity and confidence, both in formal presentations and casual discussions. 
  • Possess an exhaustive understanding of relevant standards, human factors engineering (HFE) methods, and effective dissemination options. 
  • Embody and propagate the principles and practices of SAFe’s Lean Agile methodology to foster value, drive organizational transformation, and champion operational excellence by empowering high-performing Agile teams. 

Minimum Requirements:


  • Doctorate Degree in Human Factors Engineering, Ergonomics, or a related discipline. 
  • At least 12 years of profound experience in human factors engineering or a related field, with a demonstrated track record of impactful contributions. 
  • Expertise in applying research findings and industry trends to the practical evaluation and improvement of products and processes. 
  • Skilled in envisioning and implementing product or process redesigns to improve user experience and safety. 
  • Exceptional ability to predict the impact of design changes on various user demographics and to formulate data-supported recommendations. 
  • Strong communication skills, capable of effectively conveying human factors issues to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. 
  • Comprehensive knowledge of applicable standards, HFE methods, and dissemination strategies. 
  • Demonstrated experience with SAFe’s Lean Agile principles and practices, focusing on leading organizational change and enhancing operational excellence. 
  • The ability to obtain a Public Trust Clearance. 
  • Detailed understanding of Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, Project) and their features/functions. 
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and facilitation skills. 
  • Deep experience with creating executive-level documentation and reports. 
  • Detailed understanding IT System Development Life Cycle, Agile, or SAFe concepts. 
  • Ability to interface well with end-users and senior client stakeholders. 
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks concurrently. 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and collaborative virtual environment. 
  • Detail-oriented consulting approach, with client service focus. 
  • Self-starter able to work independently and within a team. 

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Certification in Human Factors Engineering or Professional Ergonomics. 
  • Experience in healthcare. 
  • Proficiency in using human factors engineering software and tools. 
  • Experience with systems such as NASA Task Load Index (TLX), System Usability Scale (SUS), Post-Study Usability Questionnaire (PSSUQ), Health Information Technology Usability Evaluation Scale (ITUEs), CPRS/VISTA, Oracle Millennium, TermMed, Symedical, VA SNOMED Extension (VSE), Health Level 7 (HL7), and Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR).   
  • VA or VHA experience

$170,000 - $190,000 a yearThis range is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as Trilogy Federal conducts an individual equity review for every candidate based on experience, location, education, industry experience, and comparisons to internal pay bands. In addition to salary, Trilogy offers robust benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance coverage, 401(k) match, paid holidays, paid time off, tuition reimbursement, and a very supportive work/life balance.
