RII is looking for a committed Accounting Specialist to join our Finance & Accounting team to solve unique, challenging problems for our Defense and Homeland Security customers. The Accounting Specialist is responsible for assisting in the recording of transactions into the project/general ledger, preparation of financial reports to track the organization’s assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities.

This position requires the ability to obtain a US Secret security clearance. This role will be hybrid with 2 days in the office in Alexandria and 3 days working remotely.


WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING


  • Ensure payroll is compliant and accurate and provides excellent support to our managers and employees. This position will track any special dedications or garnishments, coordinate with finance and tax departments to ensure all tax filings and reporting is completed in a timely manner and work closely with other areas, such as, HRIS, Benefits and Compensation to ensure accuracy of employee data in the payroll system
  • Payroll related duties – timesheet/expense review, reconciliation, assisting employees with timesheet
  • Strong skills using and understanding the flow of transactions in an integrated and automated payroll system
  • Participate in the design, testing, and implementation of the payroll portion of the Paylocity HRIS system
  • Perform general accounting and other related duties in the accounting department
  • Assist in maintaining the general ledger and fixed asset register
  • Process accounts payable & receivable, reconciles accounts, maintain files, and assist in closing the monthly books
  • Reconcile bank accounts at least monthly, verify deposits, and address inquiries from banks
  • Reconcile customer accounts and support accounts receivable collections
  • Assist in providing documents/responses to outside accountants for annual tax/review/audit preparation
  • Assist in annual local license and tax preparation (PPT & BPOL)
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

WHAT YOU HAVE DONE


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 2+ years of related experience with accounting and financial reporting
  • A minimum of 2 years experience in the government contracting industry including cost accounting practices
  • Experience with prevalent industry tools such as Unanet or Costpoint
  • Experience within the Payroll-/Compensation- cycle
  • Strong skills using and understanding the flow of transactions in an integrated and automated payroll system
  • Previous payroll experience
  • Detail oriented and strong documentation skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work in an ambiguous environment with multiple initiatives and changing priorities

EVEN BETTER


  • Strong working knowledge of US GAAP requirements preferred
  • Experience with Unanet and Paylocity systems
  • Experience with various contract types (Fixed Price, Cost Plus, and T&M) preferred
