The Health Care Policy Analyst works with other American Action Forum (AAF) researchers and policy analysts and is responsible for original research and analysis of health care policy proposals, legislative initiatives and enacted laws. Analysts are expected to write multiple products each week including research pieces and congressional testimony excerpts; while also supporting the Director of Health Care Policy with timely analysis and background memorandums. This position will, at times, represent AAF in meetings with stakeholders and on Capitol Hill.
A successful candidate will be a detail-oriented team player who combines a firm grasp of health care policy with exceptional quantitative research skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills are an absolute requirement.This position will report to the Director of Health Care Policy.
Desired Skills & Experience
- 1 to 3 years of experience in government, health care, policy analysis or a related field
- A degree in economics, data analysis, statistics, public policy, history or English; or commensurate experience. Graduate work preferred but not required.
- Broad working knowledge of the U.S. health care system and health care policy
- Ability to express complex ideas, supported by robust policy analysis, in written and oral form
- Ability to communicate complex policy and its implications to a variety of audiences
- Familiarity with the U.S. federal legislative and regulatory process as well as associated documents (bills, rulemaking and agency guidance)
- Ability to multi-task and shift priorities efficiently with little notice.
- Strong quantitative skills and demonstrable expertise working with MS Excel. Experience using statistical packages (such as SAS, STATA, or R) is useful but not essential.
