Job Overview:


Seeking a Buyer to be responsible for all aspects of domestic item purchasing for our Saltillo, Mexico location, including but not limited to quoting, purchasing, delivery, supplier development, and risk mitigation. The ideal candidate is a self-starter requiring little supervision and possesses a strong work ethic and excellent problem-solving skills. This is a full-time position based at our Round Rock, TX location.Domestic item examples:

  • Hardware (screws, bolts, washers, etc.)
  • Chemicals
  • Wires / Cables
  • Consumables
  • Additional items as they are

Key Responsibilities:


  • Places purchase orders for domestically sourced materials.
  • Manages and maintains all updates required on purchase orders.
  • Follows up on purchase orders to ensure on-time delivery and coordinates resolution of delays or problems.
  • Works with suppliers to establish price and delivery parameters including price, delivery, and terms and conditions.
  • Prepares reports required for decision making and to create RFQ and RFP packages.
  • Develops cost and price comparisons and evaluation worksheets in response to RFPs and supplier price changes.
  • Maintains the supplier database.
  • Updates information in ERP (i.e., pricing, lead times, vendor cross reference, etc.) as required.
  • Sets up new suppliers and part numbers.
  • Will work across multiple commodities in order to support overall business operation.
  • Follows up from order placement to supplier payment and receipt of material through the system.
  • Coordinates with the warehouse to resolve any receiving issues.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills:


Must-Have Skills:


  • Minimum of 3 years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience working with at least one major ERP system (Oracle, SAP, Plex, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, Syspro, etc.)
  • Knowledge of supply chain processes (purchasing, sourcing, materials planning, logistics, etc.)
  • Should be able to interpret engineering part lists, drawings, and bills of material (BOM).
  • Must be a self-starter requiring little supervision and perform accurately in the execution of job assignments.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Excel and other MS Office applications.
  • Strong analytical skills. Ability to analyze and combine data from multiple sources, draw conclusions, and set actions based on the analysis.
  • Proven ability to think critically and creatively problem solve.

Good-to-Have Skills:


  • APICS Certification is desirable.
  • NetSuite experience.
  • Plex experience.

Education:


  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, business, finance or accounting, and relevant experience or two years of previous experience in a purchasing role.
