23andMe is seeking an exceptional, highly collaborative Sr. Data Scientist to join our Business Analytics team. The successful candidate will bring excellent analytical skills and a great track record of applying them to improve the consumer experience.

What You'll Do


You will closely partner with the Product and Marketing teams to help identify opportunity areas, scope business problems, and move the business forward using data and analysis. Some areas you will work on include:

  • Engagement and Growth: Our goal is to provide a high-value, dynamic experience that delights our customers. You will play a key role by analyzing customer behavior, designing experiments, and helping our team build awesome, data-driven products.
  • Product Analytics: You will conduct deep-dive analyses to understand user journeys, conversion funnels, and user segmentation, providing insights to inform product/feature strategy.
  • Financial Forecasting: You will develop forecast models by leveraging historical data, customer behavior, market trends, and business insights. 
  • General Data Science: Our team is cross-functional and works with many groups across 23andMe to help solve business problems in a rigorous, data-driven way. 
  • Leadership: Will mentor junior members of the data science team, fostering a culture of learning, collaboration, and innovation.

Our team culture is respectful and collaborative; we place a lot of emphasis on mentorship and growth both within the Business Analytics team and with our business partners. Strong R and SQL skills are a must for this role and experience with Shiny and Google Analytics is a significant plus. If you think you would be a good fit we'd love to hear from you!

What You’ll Bring


  • 5+ years of experience as a Senior Analyst or Data Scientist for a technology company for a consumer-facing product
  • Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Business, or a related field
  • Skilled in R and SQL. Google Analytics, tidyverse, Git, Python, and AWS are a plus
  • Highly analytical mindset; you will champion data-driven decision-making and help the Product and Marketing teams identify areas of opportunity to drive business value
  • Strong data visualization skills
  • Ego-free, team-first mentality
  • Exceptional verbal and written communicator
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including relationship-building and collaboration. This role requires regular interaction with business partners across the company
  • An online sample of your analytical and/or data visualization abilities is greatly appreciated
  • Able to work three days onsite (Tuesday - Thursday) in our Sunnyvale, CA office

Pay Transparency


23andMe takes a market-based approach to pay, and amounts will vary depending on your geographic location. The salary range reflected here is for a candidate based in the San Francisco Bay Area.  The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.San Francisco Bay Area Base Pay Range$158,000—$238,000 USD
