As a team, we’ve launched two satellites into orbit,  signed ten commercial deals worth over $1 billion in revenue, raised over $500 million from top global investors, and recruited a team of over 300 world-class engineers. We all work out of our (legendary) San Francisco office, which was once used to build ships during the World Wars.Our satellites, which operate from geostationary orbit (GEO), weigh only 400 kg and utilize a proprietary software-defined radio payload. Each satellite can connect over two million people, and we’re very excited for the impact we’ll soon have in the Philippines, Peru, Mexico, and more! Backed by substantial funding and a passionate, collaborative team, we offer a rewarding work environment where you'll learn and make a significant impact, no matter where you are in your career. Apply and join us on our journey towards global connectivity!Join the Office of the CTO to solve our biggest cross-functional problems and challenges, lead trade studies, and develop cross-functional systems and processes to ensure smooth functioning across the engineering organization.

Role:


  • Lead and assist others in trade studies and other key decision points
  • Lead technical firefighting efforts and marshall resources to help resolve core and/or urgent issues across the organization and across all stages of design and production.
  • Keep an eye on things that are happening across the organization to find issues before they present themselves, and connect together parts of the organization that aren’t communicating as effectively as they should
  • Have awareness of the schedule and risks associated with active programs in order to foresee problems, and take charge to solve these issues
  • Champion R&D processes and key metrics across the organization, obtaining buy-in from the team where necessary
  • Drive the development and improvement of process as necessary to achieve a scalable culture of program success
  • Assist in recruiting, interviewing, and hiring additional teammates to our rapidly-growing team

Requirements:


  • Bachelor of Science (or similar) degree in a technical discipline
  • 3 -10 years of engineering or equivalent experience
  • Experience as a hands-on engineer or other technical domain expert. Note that both junior and senior engineers are sought for this role.
  • Strong communication skills, both internal and external facing
  • Ability to lead outside of the traditional reporting chain
  • Proven ability to work in a fast paced environment, overcome obstacles with creative solutions, and clearly document/communicate tactical plans
  • Ability to process information quickly, handle multiple tasks, and prioritize
  • Incredibly organized
  • Ability to work at the deeply technical level while keeping the strategic impacts in mind
  • US Citizen or Green Card Holder

Bonus:


  • Space system or integrated vehicle experience
  • Familiarity with Smartsheet, Jira, and Confluence
  • Deep technical experience across multiple domains
