This position will work directly as a member of a new product development team, applying their product assembly engineering expertise to deliver a novel, integrated product to solve immediate customer challenges. They will be a lead-from-the-front primary technical resource for our low-volume prototype and initial production assembly team, working with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and technicians to ensure on-time delivery of high-quality working systems.
Functions
- Internalize the notion of ownership, display the qualities of a self-starter and proactive problem solve on a multidisciplinary team.
- Initial estimate ~60% hands-on assembly, commissioning, test, and troubleshooting of robotic pick cells and sub-assemblies.*
- Initial estimate ~40% leading daily task burndowns, tasking people, ensuring prioritization consistent with team Leads.*
- Time initially split between Bedford, MA and Billerica, MA.*
- Travel to suppliers and customer sites in US and Asia as necessary to support installation and issue resolution.
- Develop production and support documentation including bills of material (BOMs), assembly drawings, and work instructions.
- Hands-on prototyping, utilizing shop tools and equipment to quickly iterate ideas and solutions.

- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical, Electrical, Robotics, or Automation Engineering
- Four or more years of related work experience, preferably advancing designs from initial concept through initial production.
- Strong intuition and skills for hands-on assembly of electro-mechanical automation systems.
- Familiarity with equipment such as conveyor systems, robot arms, photo-eyes, proximity sensors, VFD drives, barcode scanners, safety controllers, and pneumatic systems.
- Familiarity with industrial electrics involving 220-480v hardware, industrial controls programming (PLC), and functional safety devices.
- Skill in heads-up issue identification and troubleshooting of complex machinery, and highly proficient at problem solving in general.
- Skill in on-the-fly engineering analysis for decisions regarding inspection, rework, or hotfixes.
- Experience using 3D CAD, preferably SolidWorks - including 2D drawings, simulations, and PDM.
- Understanding of development status of subsystems (i.e.: released vs prototype) and experience implementing changes via revision/ECO.
- High-level of technical writing proficiency (specs, test plans, reports, white papers, etc.).
- A working knowledge of ASME drafting standards including GD&T(Y14.5-2009).
- Interpreting electrical schematics, mechanical diagrams and system-level drawings.
