Hermeus is an aerospace and defense technology company founded to radically accelerate air travel by delivering hypersonic aircraft. The company aims to develop hypersonic aircraft quickly and cost-effectively by integrating hardware-rich, iterative development with modern computing and autonomy. This approach has been validated through design, build, and test of the company’s first combined turbojet-ramjet engine and is now being scaled through its first flight vehicle program, Quarterhorse. Hermeus is also developing Darkhorse — an uncrewed hypersonic aircraft designed to deliver unique asymmetric capabilities to the warfighter.
As a Facilities Building Engineer at Hermeus in Jacksonville, FL, you will play a crucial role in building, maintaining and enhancing the functionality of our facilities. The ideal candidate will have hands on aerospace experience and possess a diverse skill set in various trades, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, and general maintenance. This position requires a proactive and hands-on approach to address day-to-day facility issues promptly and ensure a safe and efficient working environment for our employees.

Responsibilities:


    Routine Maintenance:

  • Perform regular inspections of the facility interior and exterior to identify and correct any maintenance needs.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on building systems, equipment, and machinery.
  • Assist with vendor services management, including building escorts, access, service coordination, and closeout.
  • Exterior Maintenance:

  • Maintain appearance of perimeter of facility, including parking areas, storage, lighting, etc.
  • Address any landscape issues and correct as necessary.
  • Carpentry and Construction:

  • Repair and maintain as needed interior and exterior of building, including walls, floors, lighting in both office and factory manufacturing areas.
  • Assist in the construction of new facilities or modification of existing structures.
  • Patch and painting of interior walls as needed.
  • Replace doors, locks, hardware as needed.
  • Plumbing and Electrical:

  • Troubleshoot and repair plumbing and electrical issues.
  • Install and maintain plumbing and electrical systems as needed.
  • Evaluate current power to find available sources.
  • Add/modify current electrical needs in various voltages, 120, 208, 240, 480.
  • Install new power runs, from panel to outlet, including new conduit and wire runs.
  • Welding and trade experience a plus.
  • Mechanical Maintenance:

  • Collaborate with 3rd party HVAC technicians to ensure the proper functioning of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
  • Perform basic HVAC maintenance tasks, such as filter replacements and system inspections.
  • Manage the upkeep and repair of the compressed air systems and associated filtration.
  • Experience in troubleshooting HVAC issues, inclusive of chillers, split systems, package units, etc.
  • Safety and Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
  • Identify potential safety hazards and take corrective actions.
  • Key member of the safety team.
  • Emergency Response:

  • Respond promptly to facility emergencies and participate in emergency preparedness drills.
  • Work with other team members to develop and implement emergency response procedures.
  • On-call availability to respond to any building emergency situations which may include off-hours and weekends.
  • Record Keeping:

  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment installations.
  • Provide input for maintenance schedules and budget planning.
  • Maintain inventory of all repair and maintenance supplies.
  • Prior experience with Computer Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Energy Management and Conservation:

  • Operate, evaluate, and set efficient parameters for the energy management systems to achieve maximum efficiency and cost savings.
  • Continually evaluate new equipment and ideas to maximize efficiency and cost savings.

Qualifications:


  • A minimum of 7 years’ experience as a hands-on building maintenance engineer.
  • Proven experience in aerospace and commercial building maintenance or in a similar maintenance role.
  • Proficiency in carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, and general maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams and drawings.
  • Knowledge of HVAC systems and basic troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to pass background test.
  • Must have a valid Florida driver’s license.

Physical Requirements:


  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects.
  • Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Physical dexterity for using hand and power tools.
  • Ability to work at local Jacksonville, FL Hermeus site.
  • Minimal travel to other Hermeus sites may be required.
