At January, we work to ensure that borrowers who fall behind on debt are treated with fairness and respect. Owing to outdated processes and bad actors, traditional debt collection is rife with harassment and fraud. Our products tackle this by helping financial institutions modernize collections, giving borrowers simpler and more compassionate ways to get back on track.
About the role:
As a Senior Product Manager for the Compliance and Money Ops team, you will redefine the standards of compliant collections. You're not just improving processes; you're crafting experiences—melding compliance with compassion at an unprecedented scale. Your mission? To architect product experiences and internal tooling that not only meet the gold standard of compliance but redefine it. Working cross-functionally, you will dive deep into the nuances of user challenges, pioneering compliance tooling that eliminates the need for manual intervention, all while ensuring a seamless flow of money between consumers, January, and our clients.
Reporting directly to our VP of Product, you will collaborate with diverse teams to make an indelible mark on January's people, processes, and execution. If you're eager to shape the future of consumer finance and make a lasting difference, we want to hear from you!
You’ll make an impact by:
- Defining a product vision and strategies that simplify and streamline our compliance audit function and money operations through internal tooling and product experiences.
- Managing product roadmaps, aligning business and technical needs, analyzing customer and product data, turning user insights into actionable initiatives, determining rollout strategy, and managing risks.
- Driving the full product lifecycle from product discovery through launch.
- Representing your team, your team’s goals, and your team’s strategy with multiple partners and senior company leaders.
- Product Champion for Compliance. You will support other Product Managers to ensure our strategy and plans elevate compliance standards and are integrated into our long-term strategy.
You might be a good fit if you value:
- Genuine collaboration. We recognize and explicitly reward feedback, alignment, and learning from each other.
- Managers as advocates. You’ll report to leaders invested in your growth and promotion, not just their own. Managers only succeed when their teams thrive.
- Outcomes over output. We value finding ways to do more with less and working smart instead of burning out.
- Continuous discovery. We view roadmaps as living, breathing documents that change as we learn. We are constantly discovering, reprioritizing, and optimizing for improvement.
- Quantitative and qualitative research. Data tells us where problems are; talking to real people lets us truly understand why the problems exist.
- Growth mindset. You’re eager to learn, adapt, and pivot based on feedback and changing business needs.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5+ years experience in product management, delivering successful and innovative software products.
- User obsession. Everything starts and ends with the needs of consumers and creditors. To design strategically beneficial offerings, you must develop a thoughtful perspective on what will and won’t change in the next few years.
- Strong communication skills. You’re comfortable leading a team through influence and with quantitative and qualitative evidence. You can make complex strategy decisions digestible and easy for the whole team to understand. You err on the side of clarity and explaining the obvious.
- Comfort with calculated risks and rapid iteration speed. You are biased towards action. You know that exploring areas with an asymmetric upside is worthwhile. You appreciate that nothing gives us insight into what resonates with our users like rapid iteration. You minimize risk where possible but act decisively and fast when opportunities present themselves.
Nice to Have:
- Compliance Experience. Experience working in a highly regulated industry such as finance or healthcare and familiarity with related regulations (e.g., FDCPA, TCPA, FCRA) and data protection laws.
- Financial Acumen: Familiar with financial systems (e.g, payment processors, ledgers), understanding of money movement processes, and the implications of these transactions on company compliance and reporting.
