For more information about us check out our website at www.expedient.comSponsorship is not provided.The Network Reliability Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the availability and stability of the backbone and data center networks that provide connectivity for Expedient’s products and services. This individual will also work to identify and create automation solutions for repetitive tasks, configuration consistency, monitoring, bug/defect tracking, code validation and continuous improvement to streamline processes.Successful candidates will possess a diverse knowledge of network technologies and how they operate at different layers of the OSI stack. They will embrace technical challenges with creativity and must have strong communication skills and an ability to interact with both technical and non-technical audiences.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and own network automation services for provisioning, network management and monitoring for a complex and rapidly expanding service provider network.
- Work to identify and track all identified bugs and defects across the network, determine the impact of the bugs and defects and identify the proper course of action to remedy the impact.
- Plan, validate, coordinate, and oversee implementation of all code and firmware updates to the backbone and data center network devices. Develop a process and cadence for proactive upgrades to ensure the security and stability of the network.
- Monitor the health and integrity of the backbone circuits and ensure all issues are resolved.
- Work closely with our hardware and software vendors to continually improve the capabilities of the network and its services.
- Periodic evening and weekend work with the ability to travel to our other data center locations as needed; Baltimore, Boston, Cleveland, Columbus, Denver, Indianapolis, Milwaukee, Phoenix, and Memphis.
- Utilize technical knowledge and professional discretion to make sound judgement calls when needed.
Skills:
- Experience with Linux, REST APIs, SNMP, visualization tools, and time-series data
- Strong experience with scripting languages such as Perl, Python, or similar
- Strong experience with automation tools such as Ansible, Ansible Tower, Salt, Chef or Puppet
- Experience planning and completing complex network projects or upgrades
- Comprehensive understanding of the principles of networking (Layers 2 and 3)
- Experience with routing protocols including BGP, EIGRP, and OSPF
- Familiarity with carrier level network protocols such MPLS, MPLS VPNs, VPLS, VXLAN, MC-LAG/MLAG, and EVPN a plus
- Experience with Layer 2 protocols including QinQ, STP/RSTP, and LACP
- Experience with enterprise/carrier-class routers and switches (Cisco, Arista, Juniper)
- Experience working with firewalls (Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto)
- CCNA or JNCIA or equivalent knowledge
- Ability to learn things quickly and make independent judgement calls on best course of action
- Ability to effectively prioritize in a fast-paced environment
- Strong attention to detail; organized approach to the work
- Experience with VMWare and VMWare NSX is a plus
Experience:
3-5 years as a Network Administrator or Engineer operating in either a Cisco, Juniper, or Arista environment.1-3 years’ experience developing and working with automation tools and scripting languagesThe ideal candidate would possess industry technical certifications from vendors such as Cisco and Juniper (CCNA, CCENT, CCNP, JNCIA, JNCIS, JNCIP, etc.)Salary for this position will be determined based upon your own experience and skill. The estimated range for a role such as this is $85,000 to $125,000 annually.
