Job Summary: The Compensation Intern is responsible for supporting the compensation function for corporate staff departments. The intern will assist in developing, implementing, and revising compensation programs and policies to align with the company’s goals and competitive practices. This position also helps ensure that company compensation programs are consistently administered in compliance with internal policies and government regulations.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Follows standard practices to create an overall compensation program.
Uses industry-specific salary data and other data sources to recommend a compensation program.
Assists in the development and administration of compensation programs.
Helps monitor the effectiveness of existing compensation practices.
Provides support on pay decisions, policy interpretations, and job evaluations.
Assists in designing specific compensation-related programs and incentive plans.
Helps compile, prepare, and present data.
Assists in ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local compensation laws and regulations.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Basic knowledge of compensation-related regulations and compliance requirements.
Analytical skills and ability to interpret and communicate data.
Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to use Microsoft products, including Excel.
Time management skills and ability to plan and set priorities.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Interpersonal skills for dealing with management and staff.
Education and Experience:
Current enrollment in a bachelor’s degree program in human resources, or a human resources-related field.
Interest in learning about employee compensation.
Knowledge of laws and regulations as they apply to compensation programs is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
