As a Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Safety Engineer, you will be an integral participant in the safe design, development, and use of ground support equipment.
You will be responsible for leading and performing safety analyses to identify risks and mitigate hazards associated with GSE that supports human flight space systems. In this role, you will work with a multi-disciplinary team comprised of hardware design engineers, safety engineers, assembly integration and test personnel, and other group representatives to plan, document, and execute effective strategies for identifying and eliminating or minimizing risk associated with GSE design and operation.DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide safety requirements and solutions to influence hardware design.
- Conducting GSE and test hardware Hazard Analysis (HA)
- Working with GSE design engineers in support of GSE and test hardware, test, integration, and safe operation
- Generation of Hazard Reports (HR), defining hazard causes and their mitigation/control strategies
- Documenting and tracking results of Preliminary Hazards Analysis (PHA), HA, Hazard Tracking, Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA), Fault Tree, Safety Assessments, etc.
- Develop Ground Safety Data Packages
- Participate in and support GSE design working groups, Safety Review Panels, Technical Interchange and Change Review Board meetings when applicable
- Coordinating with verification and validation (V&V) personnel to ensure safety-critical requirements are tested at an acceptable level of rigor
- Perform anomaly and nonconformance analysis, tracking and resolution verification
- Develop and provide reports/presentations to Axiom Space S&MA Division, Program, and Business leadership.
- Function as a Test Safety Officer for GSE testing operations
- Provide safety engineer support to all Axiom Programs as required

- Bachelor's degree in engineering (mechanical, aerospace, or other engineering discipline)
- 4-9 years of experience as a Ground Support Equipment Safety Engineer (or similar titled position) working in the human spaceflight field
- Experience performing hazard analyses, developing hazard reports, completing fault trees, and other types of safety analysis/assessments as related to development and operation of electro-mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic ground support equipment and test hardware
- Experience working with NASA or other business/entity Safety Review Panel (SRP)
- Experience providing detailed report out on PHA, HA, HR, Fault Tree, etc. status
- Experience working directly with GSE design engineers, technicians, and other support group personnel while performing required component or system level safety analysis.
- Experience with performing safety review of operations and test procedures

- Experience designing and/or assessing ground support equipment safety design per relevant ASME, IEC, OSHA, NASA, etc. requirements, and other best practices
- Familiarity with NASA Safety &Mission Assurance (S&MA) and SRP processes, practices, and requirements
