Who We Are
Neya is a leader in advanced robotics developing off-road autonomy for both commercial and defense customers. Our deep domain expertise spans semi-autonomy, autonomy, perception, and mission planning; all of which support a wide range of DoD and commercial thrust areas. Our main center of gravity is in the Pittsburgh area, and we have teams located in RI and CO.
This position is open to hybrid candidates in the Pittsburgh, PA area. Local candidates will receive preference.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to lead complex safety engineering efforts contributing to overarching customer system engineering efforts. You will develop and execute plans for carrying out our software safety program. You will collaborate with a strong team of scientists and engineers to help drive critical architecture decisions on a diverse set of robotics challenges ranging from control of large construction equipment, drone navigation and planning autonomous jet-ski perception, 3D scene reconstruction, and self-driving off-road vehicles.
What You'll Do:
- Develop and execute plans for carrying out the Software Safety program
- Lead refinement of concept of operations identification of potential safety mishaps and hazards, and identification of safety concepts and goals
- Write and support the implementation of functional and technical safety requirements in all parts of the vehicle system design
- Drive the development of functional and technical safety concepts within the subsystems, software, and hardware
- Lead a technical safety team and cross-functional efforts
- Implement and manage software safety architecture design and code analysis and safety test planning
- Engage with external manufacturers and suppliers to ensure compliance across all parts of the vehicle system
- Support engineering teams with root cause identification, safety-critical requirements and exchange of knowledge

- A Master’s degree or equivalent in Safety Engineering, Robotics, Computer Science, or related technical degree
- 7+ years of relevant industry experience, including system safety engineering
- Experience in developing Preliminary Hazard List (PHL) for a system based on its capabilities and current maturity and performing Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA) and the Subsystem Hazard Analysis (SSHA) of a system using MIL-STD-882E or similar standards
- Experience working with electronic/electrical systems, automotive functional safety; ideally in autonomous systems (ground, air, or both)
- Experience in doing Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), comprising of quantitative and architectural analysis of safety-critical hazards, for systems (e.g., an autonomous vehicle, a perception subsystem, etc.)
- Strong experience analyzing code, like C++, from a systems safety perspective
- Experience performing Software Safety Requirements Analysis based on the PHA (Preliminary Hazard Analysis) to eliminate, mitigate, or control hazards related to software
- Knowledge and know-how of various commercial and DoD (Department of Defense) safety standards like IEC-61508, ISO-26262, MIL-882, ISO-13849, etc.
