DevOps Engineer primarily responsible for VGS’ CI/CD strategy, developer tooling, and implementation. In this crucial role, you'll play a key part in strengthening and streamlining our DevOps/GitOps processes ensuring smooth product operations. Other responsibilities include general automation and integration of engineering systems to improve developer productivity. Your extensive expertise in DevOps, GitOps, Linux, public cloud setups, containerization, and monitoring tools will be essential. You will collaborate closely with software engineering teams to ensure seamless deployment and operation of services, and you will be instrumental in driving continuous improvement and modernization efforts. This position will directly report to the Director of Engineering Enablement. What you will be doing at VGS
- Establish standards by building reference “hello world” services in specific languages that are in use at VGS.
- Implement templatized CI/CD pipelines for the reference service and collaborate with product teams to ensure adherence of all CI/CD pipelines to the standard.
- Evaluate, identify, implement, optimize existing and new tooling to facilitate CI/CD.
- Establish and enable automated code promotion best practices for multi-region Kubernetes clusters spread across various environments by building and leveraging automated checks using metrics, logging, analytics, and alerting to ensure high availability, performance, and security.
- Lead developer productivity initiatives and partner with engineers to build dev tools that empower developer workflows and deployment infrastructure.
- Continuously evaluate and implement best practices, tools, and methodologies to improve DevOps and Developer productivity processes and workflows.
- Drive change by establishing and governing code/build/release metrics/scorecards for each product team.
- Develop automation scripts and tools to streamline operational tasks and integrate various engineering systems with each other.
- Incorporating security measures seamlessly into the DevOps pipeline, ensuring that security is an integral part of the development and deployment lifecycle.
- Work with an Agile team, attend daily scrums; communicating and collaborating frequently with teammates to ensure successful completion of project objectives.
What we are looking for from you (Requirements)
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5+ years hands-on experience in building DevOps/GitOps workflows on Kubernetes based cloud environment to achieve continuous delivery.
- Strong understanding of Kubernetes architecture, components, and best practices.
- Experience with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, Helm, or Ansible.
- Hands on experience creating helm charts, deployments pipelines and toolchain on top of Kubernetes in public cloud infrastructure preferably AWS.
- Automation mindset and Proficiency in programming, scripting (Java, Python, Bash).
- Knowledge of observability solutions such as Prometheus, Grafana, Honeycomb and Open Telemetry.
- Experience with Dynamic/Static code quality check and Vulnerability scanning.
- Familiarity with Site Reliability Engineering principles and toolchains.
- Solid understanding of cloud-native architecture, microservices, CI/CD (CircleCI, GitHub Actions, Argo Rollout, Argo Workflow, ArgoCD or equivalent), APIs and API Gateway, Docker, Kubernetes (EKS), Kafka (MSK), Java, Spring Framework, AWS services, GIT.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to understand and explain complex technical issues to a non- technical audience.
- Kubernetes certification (CKA, CKAD, etc.) is a plus.
- AWS certified solutions architect professional or similar AWS certifications are a plus.
