About the Role


Vectra is looking for a technical leader that will bring years of professional experience to help improve existing products and design and build new products and services. You should be passionate about efficiency and champion best practices for scaling up application capacity in a large-scale distributed system. You will be joining a team focused on extending our portfolio by onboarding new data sources, enabling the efficient processing of this data, and ultimately enabling security analysts to take actions to address any security threats that may arise.

At a Glance


As a Principal Engineer you will lead the design, development, and deployment of new services and mentor and coach other engineers. Your focus will be on scalability, efficiency and optimisation of application services at enterprise scale that manage and process considerable volumes of data.

  • Work with product managers to gather requirements and translate them into technical designs
  • Work with platform engineers to ensure that services are deployed and handled in a production ready manner
  • Provide expert knowledge on the latest cloud technologies and trends
  • Collaborate with peers to positively influence team roadmaps, developer experience, and overall product quality
  • Take ownership of timely deliverables by delegating, holding accountable, and only sometimes closing gaps with personal contributions
  • Contribute regularly to the code base

What Will Impress Us


  • 10+ years' experience designing and building sophisticated systems with a focus on distributed systems scalability and efficiency
  • Proven experience with Python, Kubernetes and AWS (or equivalent cloud provider)
  • Managed or intensely worked with databases to solve large scale problems
  • Led or intensely worked with large scale systems focused on optimising the design, deployment and operational management of these systems
  • Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills!
  • Willingness to get things done, learn new things, take initiative and challenge existing assumptions and conventions

Preferred


  • Experience with microservices architecture
  • Experience with cloud-based development tools and technologies and migrating services to the cloud
  • Experience with data pipelines, data modelling and data products
  • Experience with databases at scale (sharding, performance optimisation, partitioning)
  • Exposed to best practices for reliability of distributed systems

Education


  • B.S or M.S or Ph.D. in Computer Science (or equivalent experience)
