ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a public relations professional with national media relations expertise and strong strategic thinking skills. The Media Relations Strategist is responsible for serving as a subject matter expert and integral advisor internally and externally.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Specifically, this position will be responsible for:
Successfully securing earned media coverage from national, trade and other priority media outlets.
Building strategic earned media campaigns in collaboration with client teams.
Partnering with Sr. Media Relations Strategists and the Account Lead to set strategy and lead execution of the plans working with a team.
Lead and develop a team of successful media relations experts.
Developing compelling stories and pitch angles.
Reviewing press releases, media lists, and pitches created by the team.
Building and maintaining a rolodex of key media contacts on behalf of our clients.
EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree required.
REQUIRED SKILLS
The ideal candidate has 8+ years of media relations experience, preferably with 2+ years in an agency environment. We will strongly consider journalists with applicable skills. Required experience includes, but is not limited to:
Thorough understanding of local and national media (print, digital and social), with an emphasis on business and technology news
Demonstrated success in securing significant media coverage and current relationships with journalists
Demonstrated experience with executive thought leadership
Experience presenting to key decision makers and executives
Decision-making skills including ability to apply critical thinking to a simple or complex situation, analyze situations including short- and long-term impact, understand the available options, and recommend the best course of action among the options
Project management skills including time management prioritization
Leadership skills with managing teams and clients
Understanding of long-term communications strategy and messaging needs as well as the right channels/events to utilize to deploy materials
Experience with and understanding of PR and marketing concepts and practices
Effective communication, writing and editing skills and knowledge of AP Style
Experience with media monitoring and reporting
Platform knowledge of Muckrack, Cision, PR Newswire and other standard tools
Working knowledge of social media
Excellent attention to detail, strong proofreading skills and ability to multitask and execute through to completion
Candidate must thrive in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating calm under pressure
