The Role
Capital on Tap is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to work closely with our Capital Markets team on negotiating and managing our debt funding facilities. This is the ideal role for someone who is excited to apply their technical knowledge to a rapidly growing business and develop a deep understanding of the day-to-day running of our financing structures.To be successful in this role, you'll be able to handle a busy workload with minimal direction and demonstrate excellent critical judgement, risk awareness and commercial acumen across our UK and US businesses.
Reporting directly to our Head of Legal, you will have significant exposure to many areas of the business.
What you'll be doing
- Working directly with our Head of Legal and Capital Markets team to review and negotiate public and private funding facilities
- Drafting (where appropriate) and reviewing legal documentation, working with external counsel to ensure we receive documentation and advice in a timely and cost-efficient manner
- Liaise with internal stakeholders to ensure our funding facilities work for our operational teams and to be a first port of call for funding-related legal queries. This will include partnering with various departments to assist new product design and implementation from a legal perspective
- The candidate will also have the opportunity to apply their legal skills to areas outside of debt financing to help the wider business. This can include getting stuck into new products, customer and commercial contracts or other business projects
What we’re looking for
- At least 5 years PQE in securitisation, structured finance or debt finance who can demonstrate a detailed understanding of debt or structured finance structures (e.g. warehouses, asset-backed securitisations, master trusts or revolving facilities). Secondment or in-house experience preferred
- Someone who is excited to join a small legal team to help with the legal structuring, negotiation and execution of debt financing projects
- A track record of taking initiative and quickly getting up to speed with complex structures
- A great communicator, who enjoys collaborating with different business teams and external stakeholders and law firms
- Adaptable, inquisitive and keen to understand all areas of our business
- Bonus points if you have experience with credit cards or master trusts
