The Team


Upstart's Servicing Vertical is responsible for managing the entire lifecycle of each loan, ensuring an exceptional experience for our borrowers. The newly formed Agent Experience engineering squad is a team focused on enhancing the experience of our 500 agents who use our products to provide a seamless borrower experience and an effortless payment process. The impact of our applications is significant: Every hour of an agent's work contributes approximately $100 to Upstart's loan portfolio, resulting in an annual impact of over $100 million.As a Senior Software Engineer on our Agent Experience team, you’ll lead projects focused on the delivery of quality, testable, resilient, and maintainable full stack web applications.

You’ll work closely with cross-functional partners in product, operations, design, analytics to identify areas for improvement, optimize our agent’s workflows, integrate new systems, and design scalable applications that deliver exceptional service to our borrowers.

This team operates on all US time zones.

Travel Requirements -


This team has regular on-site collaboration sessions. These occur 3 days per quarter at an Upstart office. If you need to travel to make these meetups, Upstart will cover all travel related expenses.

How you’ll make an impact:


  • Lead successful cross-team and/or multi-quarter, multi-engineer projects
  • Move quickly to drive both existing and greenfield projects forward, while always keeping our end users in mind
  • Proactively search out ways to expand impact that extends well beyond the Jira board
  • Provide leadership experience with code release process, deployment orchestration / rollout mechanisms, logging, instrumentation, monitoring, and alerting in a microservices environment
  • Autonomously analyze and solve complex problems related to agent and borrower experience

What we’re looking for: 


  • Minimum requirements:
  • 6+ years of professional experience as a full-stack engineer
  • 4+ years of professional experience developing customer facing web applications and/or in a product facing position
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages and some hands-on experience with a JavaScript framework, such as React. We primarily use Ruby (Rails) and Kotlin, but are open to experience with different stacks
  • Experience in a tech lead type of role, leading significant projects (3+ months) and driving technical decisions
  • Preferred qualifications:
  • Experience with designing, developing, and deploying microservices-based applications.
  • Prior experience or demonstrated enthusiasm for working on internal tools with direct access to your users
  • Ability to thrive both in self-directed work environments and in collaborative settings, contributing positively to team dynamics.
  • Experience with Ruby on Rails and React or NextJS

Your actual base pay will depend on your geographic location–with our “digital first” philosophy, Upstart uses compensation regions that vary depending on location. Individual pay is also determined by job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
