As the Tax Manager, you will have the opportunity to build out our tax capabilities to support the scale of our growing and profitable company. You will play a pivotal role in shaping the tax function, driving strategic tax planning initiatives, and minimizing tax risks.You will oversee all aspects of corporate taxation, ensuring compliance and optimizing our tax strategies. This role requires a self-starter who can conduct independent research, collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders, and liaise with external advisors.*Mercury is a financial technology company, not a bank.

- Oversee and manage all aspects of tax compliance, including federal, state, and local tax filings
- Implement a Sales Tax compliance program for upcoming product launches and manage the monthly sales and use tax returns for multiple states
- Work with our outside tax team to ensure timely and accurate preparation and submission of tax returns and related documentation.
- Lead the coordination of preparation and review of annual tax provisions in accordance with ASC 740 and related disclosures
- Maintain a tax calendar of payments and submission
- Prepare technical accounting memos to address tax issues raised in various business transactions
- Develop and implement strategic tax planning initiatives
- Conduct tax research and analysis to identify opportunities for tax savings and efficiencies
- Monitor state tax nexus and assist with other filings such as business licenses, state registrations, gross receipts filing, franchise taxes, and annual reports
- Prepare tax forecasts and projections to support budgeting and strategic planning efforts
- Maintain a tax calendar of payments and submission
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including finance, legal, and operations, to address tax-related inquiries and issues
- Stay updated on changes in tax laws and regulations to ensure compliance and minimize tax risks
You have:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; CPA or Master’s in Taxation required
- Over 6 years of experience in tax compliance, planning, and strategy
- A combination of public (Big 4 preferred) corporate tax and private tax experience
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations, with the ability to interpret and apply complex tax concepts
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze financial data and identify tax implications
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex tax issues to non-tax professionals

New hire offers are made based on a candidate’s experience, expertise, geographic location, and internal pay equity relative to peers.Our target new hire base salary ranges for this role are the following:
- US employees in New York City, Los Angeles, Seattle, or the San Francisco Bay Area: $191,300 - $225,100
- US employees outside of the New York City, Los Angeles, Seattle, or the San Francisco Bay Area: $172,200 - $202,600
