Job Description and Responsibilities:


The Animal Care Specialist will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to support the research and development and non-clinical trials program. Staff in this role will monitor and maintain the health of animals under their care and may perform duties such as receiving new animals, cleaning and changing animal enclosures, providing food and water, animal husbandry, and animal enrichment. Success in this position is dependent on having a team player mindset, the ability to follow procedures and perform core functions independently, and adaptability to changing schedules and priorities.

  • Perform daily health observations with ability to recognize and report abnormalities and common signs of illness
  • Provide general husbandry, including enclosure cleaning, as needed
  • Assist in the receipt, weighing, and operational conditioning of animals
  • Record data in the animals’ medical and behavior records
  • Support animals with operational conditioning for voluntary husbandry, cooperative veterinary care, and research tasks such as gameplay and charging
  • Provide animals enrichment, including cognitive, physical, and social enrichments
  • Perform required facilities and equipment maintenance, including but not limited to cleaning animal enclosures, research supplies, procedure rooms, etc.
  • Assist across departments as needed
  • Adhere to federal, state and local laws

Required Qualifications: 


  • An animal advocate with experience in animal husbandry and basic training
  • Comfortable working closely with animals
  • Basic computer skills and proficiency with G Suite

Preferred Qualifications:


  • RBT, ALAT, or above

Physical Requirements: 

Ability to travel to/from and work in Fremont and/or Austin. Exposure to animal bodily fluids, including blood. Preferred ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.

Work Environment:

Animal care facilities, Vivarium, Office.

Texas Hourly Rate Range:


$25—$38 USDFor Full-Time Employees, your compensation package will include two major components: salary and equity. Guidance on salary for this role will be determined according to the level at which you enter the organization, with the ability to gain more over time as you contribute. In addition, Full-Time Employees are eligible for the following benefits listed below.
