Position Overview:
Masterworks is seeking a highly motivated Compliance professional who is passionate about finance and investments to join our team. This role will be primarily focused on reviewing and approving advertising copy and product updates subject to applicable rules and regulations of the SEC, FINRA, and the FTC, among others. Additionally, this individual will be responsible for assisting the legal and compliance team in ensuring the Masterworks’ Registered Investment Adviser (“RIA”) and other regulated functions adhere to all relevant regulations and industry best practices.
The Compliance Associate will report directly to the CCO as part of a small legal and compliance team and contribute to the overall compliance framework of the organization.Our ideal candidate possesses a solid understanding of financial products and concepts, and the regulatory environment governing the oversight and marketing of financial products and services. This person serves as a key partner to their business counterparts, and should be comfortable with building strong interdepartmental relationships and workflows.
Responsibilities:
- Review and approve all marketing content and product changes to ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements, including but not limited to SEC and FINRA regulations.
- “Problem-solve” with the marketing and product teams to accomplish objectives while remaining compliant.
- Develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
- Prepare and deliver compliance training programs and materials.
- Oversee employee activity in accordance with the company’s policies and procedures.
- Assist with regulatory inquiries or examinations.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date compliance records including but not limited to regulatory filings, policies and procedures, client communications, marketing and advertising materials, and evidence of advisory oversight.
- Assist with the development and evolution of the company’s compliance program.
Requirements or Skill Sets:
- Bachelor's degree in finance, law, or related field
- 3+ years of experience in compliance, preferably in a fintech company
- Strong understanding and practical experience with FINRA and SEC regulations (emphasis on the Investment Advisers Act of 1940, including the SEC Marketing Rule)
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to identify and analyze regulatory risks
- Inquisitive nature, with experience evaluating complex data sets and calculations
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Outstanding interpersonal skills
- Experience successfully navigating cross departmental relationships and initiatives
- Business-minded, capable of balancing compliance risk with business objectives

How does Masterworks think about compensation?
The compensation range for the role is $85-130k (inclusive only of base salary, and exclusive of other potential competitive benefits such as on-target commission, bonus payments, and equity). Our ranges are very broad to accommodate all types of candidates and encourage growth. Specific compensation offered to a candidate may be dependent on factors such as education, experience, qualifications, and alignment with market data. Exceptional candidates may receive salaries outside of the posted ranges.
