The Senior Data Engineer will spearhead the development, maintenance, and optimization of the client platform, ensuring robust data infrastructure, seamless operations, and alignment with evolving project objectives. - Bachelor’s degree in computer science (or related field), or substitute six years of equivalent work experience.
- At least six (6) years of experience as a Data Engineer.
- Proficient with cloud-based data engineering and big data architecture.
- Experience with real-time data streaming, automated QA/QC of data, data pipelines, and data visualization tools.
- Experience working with Agile/Scrum and DevSecOps environments.
- Experience with tools like Jira and Confluence.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to pass a US Public Trust background check for badging and access to client systems.
- Previous federal government project experience is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and update the platform’s Data Structure, including documentation and expanding functionality based on government needs.
- Increase the resiliency of the platform and maintain its performance under increased load.
- Monitor and optimize cloud resource usage, manage user access, troubleshoot user issues, and fix bugs.
- Conduct risk analysis of potential data structure solutions to meet platform objectives.
- Collaborate with government stakeholders to define and achieve MVP goals and objectives.
- Develop and maintain a unified inventory of all platform data assets, including data lineage, transformation processes, calculations, and known data quality issues.
- Implement cloud-based, big data architecture/data engineering techniques for real-time data streaming, automated QA/QC of data, data pipelines, and data visualization tools.
- Prioritize and develop new platform features and architecture updates based on user engagement sessions.
- Maintain, contribute to, and build out platform development and production code repositories on GitHub, following DOT's open-source code policy.
- Collaborate with other teams to support continuous code integration.
- Develop In-Process Source Code and Shippable Source Code that does not add new technical defects to a release.
- Identify corrective and preventative actions for technical defects and correct these defects within 10 business days or less.
- Track technical defects and time to resolve technical defects.
- Ensure code quality through automated testing and full test coverage.
- Ensure the automatic build and deployment process works effectively across all environments, including the contractor’s dev/test enclave.
- Ensure new features developed or architecture changes made under this task either improve or do not impact data quality, throughput, or completeness.
- Provide new and updated technical software and architecture documentation, end-user documentation, and release notes.
- Conduct day-to-day operations including cloud infrastructure maintenance, application maintenance, patching, monitoring logs, system uptime, backup and recovery, and operations support.
- Ensure compliance with policies and regulations on security, accessibility, and privacy.
