Through its work, CAL seeks solutions to issues involving language and culture as they relate to access and equity in education and society around the globe.

The Center for Applied Linguistics (CAL) is located in Washington DC. This is a in office position, and the employee will be required to work in the DC office. This position requires candidates local to CAL’s offices so qualified candidates are preferred to reside locally to Washington DC. CAL does not compensate or reimburse candidates for relocation expenses.


Job Description


The Customer Support Assistant (Part-time) aids the Customer Relations Specialist, BEST Assessments in handling the shipment of BEST assessment materials, providing telephone and customer service and support to BEST customers, and providing administrative support as needed.  The incumbent will need to perform these duties at CAL’s office in Washington, DC, for the total of 17.5 hours weekly. There is a possibility of increased hours with adequate performance. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 


•    Prepare, package, and ship BEST assessment materials under the supervision of Full-time Customer Relations Specialist, BEST Assessments •    Monitor and maintain inventory of BEST assessment products •    Enter data and maintain database of trained test administrators for Adult English Language BEST assessments •    Assist with telephone and email support, including technical support, for BEST administrators and programs •    Provide administrative support (copying, printing, mailing correspondence data analysis), as needed •    Organize and mail complimentary materials needed for training assignments and conference presentations •    Participate in periodic meetings •    Complete other assignments at the direction of the Customer Relations Specialist

Qualifications


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE


•    High School diploma or equivalent •    Some college experience preferred •    2+ years of experience working in an office setting and handling shipment of printed materialsAny equivalent combination of education and experience determined to be acceptable

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES


•    Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills in English. •    Excellent organizational skills.  •    Acute attention to detail and ability to consistently meet deadlines. •    Ability to work independently as well as part of a team. •    Proficient in the use of Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. •    Ability to work flexibly and cooperatively in a fast-paced team environment.

COMPENSATION:


Minimum Salary: 50% of full time annual salary $37,100.00 ; Benefits eligible

PHYSICAL DEMANDS


The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to effectively communicate. The employee may be required to sit or stand in a stationary position for 50% of the time. This position constantly operates a computer and other office productivity equipment. CAL adheres to ADA compliance and guidelines as a common practice.
