Our Onchain Security group is seeking an engineering leader to join our team to help us secure onchain, crypto-forward products within the ever evolving onchain technology landscape. At Coinbase, we believe that securely developing and integrating products on onchain technology is our differentiator. Onchain Security is essential to continue to instill trust in the cryptoeconomy. Onchain Security is an evolving concept and we are designing new best practices to securely develop Crypto products. Security is not limited to only onchain products, but also includes offchain security considerations around systems that integrate with blockchains.
Secure storage of and access to the user's private keys is the primary focus for off-chain security, whereas onchain security is about providing safe ways for users to interact with tokens, dApps, and more.
What you’ll be doing (ie. job duties):
- Build and manage a focused onchain security services/team and guide the development and operation of onchain security tools, audit frameworks & processes
- Work with the industry and ecosystem to help strengthen security standards/frameworks and tooling
- Expand and formalize our onchain security capabilities to evolve towards proactive, continuous and ongoing risk assessment for our blockchain-based products. Detect and prevent the likelihood and impact of security breaches through high quality assessments and successful remediation of security vulnerabilities.
- Manage Product Security incidents specially onchain security incidents with Product/Engineering teams and or ecosystem partners
- Coach your direct reports to have a positive impact on the organization and chart a fulfilling career path. Set clear targets and objectives, and establish KPIs for the team
- Collaborate with engineers, managers, product managers and senior leadership to turn our vision into a tangible roadmap every quarter
- Be a thoughtful technical voice and support your team in making diligent architectural and operational decisions
- Work with our talent organization to source and hire amazing engineers who will expand the Coinbase culture and product
- Manage relationships with multiple cross functional teams, negotiating requirements, resourcing, priorities, and roles across multiple teams and workstreams
What we look for in you (ie. job requirements):
- At least 5 years of experience in security domains such as Application Security, Product Security, Infrastructure Security, Cloud Security, Security Engineering, etc
- At least 10 years of experience in security
- At least 5 years of engineering management experience
- At least 5 years of people management experience and a preference for managing managers
- You know what high quality systems look like and know how to foster an environment that creates them
- You have an energy and self-drive for continuous learning, onchain security is a constantly and rapidly changing space
- You are passionate about developing the technical skill sets of security professionals
- Ability to communicate with technical SMEs and non-technical stakeholders in order to drive alignment
- Ability to do both long term thinking and short term planning
- Alignment with Coinbase’s mission and desire to create a better world
Nice to haves:
- You have onchain expertise
- You have experience in building onchain monitoring technology
- You excel in identifying machine-level, transaction-level, and business logic-level vulnerabilities in smart contracts and novel blockchains
- You have written/deployed security-specific tooling, such as static or dynamic analysis tools

Depending on your work location, the target annual salary for this position can range as detailed below. Full time offers from Coinbase also include
target bonus + target equity + benefits (including medical, dental, vision and 401(k)).Pay Range: $246,500—$290,000 USD
