Digital Communications Officer

POSITION SUMMARY
The Communications Team at one of Houston’s largest place-based funders, Houston Endowment, is looking for an innovative, digital-savvy communicator who is passionate about telling stories that matter and thrives on creating impactful digital communications strategies that engage and connect the Foundation’s work with the communities and partners it serves and drive our organization's digital presence to new heights.The Digital Communications Officer will develop and execute effective digital communications strategies for owned and paid digital communication channels to support and elevate Houston Endowment’s brand, mission, and programmatic goals in Civic Engagement, PreK-12 Public Education, Arts & Parks, and Impact Opportunities.
This role requires a strong blend of strategic thinking, technical proficiency, and creativity to connect with our target audiences and achieve our communication goals. They will work with our Communications and Programmatic teams to develop and distribute through all channels timely, interesting, and relevant multimedia storytelling that supports the messaging goals of our programmatic teams and connects our grants to their impacts.This is a unique opportunity to join a results-driven team as it grows and evolves to effectively tell stories around our community’s most significant challenges and reduce barriers to opportunity for all who live here. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Digital Communications Officer role includes the following:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive digital communication strategy aligned with the organization's goals, ensuring a consistent and compelling brand presence and storytelling across all digital channels
- Create and curate high-quality, engaging content for various digital platforms, including social media, website, newsletters, and other online communication channels
- Social media: Create and execute a social media strategy to identify short- and long-term goals, tone and voice, messaging strategies and engagement/reach strategies; develop engaging, visually compelling social media campaigns around key content; and manage and monitor social media accounts, including content scheduling, engagement, mentions, and audience growth. Stay up-to-date with social media trends and best practices.
- Website Management: Oversee the Foundation’s website, packaging content for optimal user experience and SEO. Collaborate with web developers on improvements and special projects and stay updated on trends and web best practices.
- Newsletter: Develop and curate email newsletters to external audiences, including designing templates, segmenting audiences, and analyzing campaign performance
- Manage paid digital campaigns, including SEO, social media, and display advertising, to achieve specific objectives and ROI targets
- Analytics and Reporting: Regularly track and analyze digital communication efforts, providing actionable insights and recommendations for improvement. Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of campaigns.
- Maintain messaging, tone, and branding consistency across all digital channels
- Be prepared to respond effectively to communication crises, managing online reputation and mitigating potential issues
- Collaborate across teams to align digital communication efforts with broader programmatic goals and strategies
COMPENSATION
Salary will be determined in accordance with the successful candidate’s experience. The candidate will be eligible for the Foundation’s comprehensive employee benefits programs, including health, dental and vision plans, time off, life insurance, short- and long-term disability as well as matching 401(k) and pension retirement plans.Requirements
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in digital communications, journalism, public affairs, media relations, or related area. Experience in nonprofits, foundations, or journalism preferred but not required
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, journalism, English, communications, political science, public policy or related field
- Passion for improving quality of life for the people of greater Houston
- Demonstrated experience developing and executing high-impact communications content and strategies in partnership with diverse stakeholders
- Strong writing and editing skills, with a track record of crafting high-quality materials/messages that make complex issues accessible, relevant, and engaging to diverse audiences
- Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and quality and adherence to editorial standards
- Strong understanding of digital platforms, analytics tools, and digital advertising
- Proficiency in social media management and content creation
- Knowledge of SEO best practices and web analytics
- Experience working with web developers to improve user experience
- Experience with email marketing platforms and automation tools
- Experience with content management systems like WordPress, email marketing platforms like MailChimp, and/or social media management platforms like Sprout or Hootsuite
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to use data to inform decision-making
- Strong project management and organizational skills
- Ability to work under pressure and handle crisis communication effectively
- Knowledge of industry trends and the ability to adapt strategies accordingly
