The purpose of this document is to outline the expectations for the
Accounting Associate.
This role will be responsible for supporting the
Head of Accounting and Purchasing.
Position will assist and work side by side with our current in-house accounting staff in daily tasks, with the potential to take over responsibility for key items in the future.
The Accounting Associate will be a member of the office staff reporting to the
Accounting Manager.

in person reporting to
Underground Printing HQ located at 1476 Seaver Way, Ypsilanti MI.

fixed
work schedule, with responsibility for coordinating with direct manager and/or team members in handling relevant urgent action items as they arise, even during non-work hours. Possible future path for career advancement: Head of Accounting (Leadership Team)
Specific responsibilities include:
- Promote UGPs core values; show up, work hard, be respectful & honest, strive for excellence, do what you say, and promote DE&I.
- Daily banking journal entries and account transfers.
- Entering invoices into Quickbooks.
- Reconciling vendor statements.
- Answering vendor questions and making payments to vendors within the daily budget.
- Reconciling bank statements.
- Reconciling credit card statements. Following up on outstanding charges.
- Filing multi state sales tax returns.
- Process payment transfers and refunds.
- Run and update daily metric reports.
- Open incoming mail, apply check payments and create bank deposits.
- Bill University of Michigan shortcodes.
- Apply incoming ACH payments.
- Effectively manage multiple changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Assist with month close procedures.
- Process outgoing POGO profit checks.
- Assist with quarterly royalty reporting.
- Serve as the back up to the purchasing assistant.
- Process garment returns.
- Approve/decline PO and tax exemption requests.

- Associate’s Degree is preferred (Bachelor’s degree a plus)
- Minimum 2 years of prior experience in an accounting / accounting related role.
- Experience with sales tax filings & payroll are a plus.
- Must be able to multi-task and thrive in a small business environment.
- Candidates must be ready to contribute to our growth and continued operational improvement.
- Candidates must be proficient in Microsoft Office, Gmail and other Google apps, and should be tech savvy. Experience with Quickbooks a plus.
